A Few Trends Accelerated by the Recession [View article]
"I cannot think of any other modern "1st world" country where the employer shoulders the healthcare costs. You simply cannot compete (on cost) on an even playing field with firms in countries where healthcare is government-sponsored."
I agree we should probably have universal health care (UHC); I have a great medical insurance plan and I will be a loser if UHC passes. I would be glad to and expect to pay higher taxes for a UHC system, BUT I have NO confidence in our govt. to come up with a sensible plan.
Are We Poised for Another Great Bull Market? [View article]
The Govt. is keeping the market on life support, but the wild card in my opinion is Israel getting extremely worried about the nation-ending threat from Iran and does attack. Oil prices would go through the roof.
Investors Throwing Caution to the Wind? [View article]
"It tells a recent tale of people selling stocks and buying bonds - an entirely prudent reaction after a decade of going nowhere and witnessing the fraud, greed, and theft visited upon the equity markets by the scorpions on Wall Street over these past few years."
All well and true, but that statement tells us nothing about the trajectory of the stock market over the next year.
Newton's Third Law: DJIA Poised for Epic Rise? [View article]
"If one closely analyzes Sir Isaac's third law of motion and a simple stock chart for the last year, it does not seem far fetched that the market could be poised for a very significant leg up."
I'm trying to figure out what correlation Newton's 3rd law has with stock market forecasting.
"...Realists are even appearing more frequently on Kudlow and Co. Guests, who Larry probably scheduled as bearish foils for his own and his cohort's bullish tones, are winning the debate."
To me, it doesn't matter who wins the debate, but who is right in the end. A thought provoking article, though.
Why Another Stock Market Collapse Could Be Imminent [View article]
Overlaying charts of '29 with our current market and making conclusions based on that can be dangerous to your wealth. Sure, the market may have a big correction, but no two time periods are alike with respect to economic conditions. The same chart comparisons were made in '82, '87, '91, etc. They looked so similar at the time, but then the current market diverged away from the past every time.
Pimco's El-Erian: Bernanke Signaling Less Fed Activism [View article]
I think El-Erian doesn't speak what he really thinks about the administratiion and congress for rear of offending PIMCO's customers who happen to be of the liberal Democrat persuation.
The whole concept of allowing people to buy houses who couldn't afford them has come home to roost. Our govt. brought down the world economies, and yet there are no indictments.
Time to Forsake Stocks for Bonds? Arnott and Arends Square Off [View article]
I wish the sale of bonds were deregulated like equities have been for years. The commission rates for bond are just too high for me to buy individual securities over bond funds. So currently I'm stuck with LQD, AGG, and BND.
