  • American Brands Are On Sale [View article]
Given the current economic conditions, I suggest a dividend oriented investing strategy. Only one of these stocks has a dividend yield above 6%. Purchasing high yielding stocks means your investments are working even if the stock is going sideways or even down.

For healthcare, I suggest Pfizer because of its dividend yield (7.1%). People will continue to take their medications, but they are likely to put off annual checkups. Hence, I would invest with drug manufacturers.

I don't see any Energy stocks. I own BP with a dividend of 7.5% and Kinder Morgan (KMP) with a dividend of 8.7%.

Given the terrible Christmas retail season, I suspect we are going to see many retail companies (stores and malls) go into bankruptcy. This means more lost jobs. As a consequence, investing in Regional Casinos and Luxury oriented retailers seems speculative when so many people are loosing or will loose their jobs. I would think that Casinos are going to be particularly hard hit until the job market substantially improves.

Of course, only time will tell which of these two strategies provides the best return.
