Citigroup Is Heading into the Single Digits [View article]
The Dow was 14,280 a year ago. Today it's 9,000. Very few analysts will give you a 1-2 year price target because they can't see beyond 3-6 months. Whitney did not forecast the market decline. Analysts are not paid by the companies they cover. That would be an obvious conflict. Two years ago Citigroup earned 24 billion. Two years from now they will probably be back to that level. The whole company can be purchased for apx. 65 billion today. That's a 37% annual return if the whole company was purchased today at 65 billion and they get back to previous earnings of 24 billion.(24/65=37)
