  • Betting On Glencore Xstrata, The Best Of Breed [View article]
If you're unaware of Century Aluminum, Marc Rich and his partners founded Century aluminum although under a different name. It was forced to changed its name due to Marc Rich buying oil from Iran in the late 70's. The united Steel workers union and Anheuser-Busch went on a political campaign against CENX. You can say Glencore started with Century Aluminum. Recently Rio sold an Alcan aluminum smelter to CENX in the USA.

  • Betting On Glencore Xstrata, The Best Of Breed [View article]
I read an article not to long ago saying Glencore was bigger than Nestle and UBS in terms of rev. Glencore was on WSJ this pass summer.

I found Glencore via an investment in Century Aluminum (CENX), in it I research glencore history which included Marc Rich. I believe Glencore has political and macro Knowledge that help it achieve great gains. Through research I found that Glencore bought out a aluminum smelter in Montana but shortly closed it after '08 collapse. Glencore AG a subsidy of Glencore owns 42% outstanding shares of CENX, and just last year century negotiated new power contracts to buy electricity on the market. With the USA experiencing record low natural gas prices it was able to win an adjusted power rate; I believe this was at the hands of Glencore. I'm close to closing my position as CENX became a 3-bagger.

Also, Teck resources sells smelted zinc to glencore.

  • Update: Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp. Has A Framework To Treat Ebola Patients [View article]
Has anyone heard that ebola may become airborne? What drove me to this stock is that both Monsanto and the Dept. of Defense infused cash into Tekmira. Besides the ebola virus, Tekmira has some type of product for agriculture use RNA.
And with 8 companies working towards ebola how does Tekmira fare? http://seekingalpha.co...
NewLink Genetics has a history of gov't purchases in anthrax and smallpox treatments.
Is Tekmira's phase 1 status ahead or behind "Preclinicals?"

  • Arch Coal: Moving Ahead Despite Challenges [View article]
Folks, A strong dollar and a weak euro will definitely hurt any coal exporting to Europe for anr, aci, cnx, and btu.

QE will end in October but the Fed has stated they'll keep interest rates near zero for the short term. We will see if QE has kept the market afloat or has suppressed it.

Benefiting from low natural gas prices can be done through companies that consume natural gas than natural gas producers. In general, Mexico's entire economy will greatly benefit from America's glut of natural gas in the Permian/Eagle/Texas area vs. what it currently imports. I myself have benefited from CENX which has negotiated a new power contract to buy electricity on the market leading to more than a double bagger.

Marco views to the coal investor:
    1) In either a case for a overbought dollar...
    http://seekingalpha.co...
    2) Or it is secular bear market, in general, for commodities... http://seekingalpha.co...
    3) With the recent solar energy boom in America will the US pay high utility rates like Germany does?

Do you anticipate volume trading looming in October as well? With the Shanghai/Hong Kong stock exchange opening their trading floors to each other, I see some new market volatility increasing for the casino operators HK equivalents. So far, mainland Chinese have been barred from trading outside of china and Westerners have been barred from directly investing in A-shares right?

  • Peabody Energy -5% as Goldman cuts shares to Sell [View news story]
The Natural gas-to-liquids market is meant for industrial use outside of the utility market; including such uses for example petroleum refining, gasoline solvents, plastic bags and gases: ethane, propane, butane, isobutane, and pentane.

The LNG entering in 2015-'16 is meant for exporting. Companies such as $CHK are already making LNG products. Some of the power generation from coal to gas overlap with regions rich in natural gas say Marcellus. 42% of America's energy is from coal which is 8% lower from 50% back in the '08-'09 era when natural gas was north of $12.

The flood early this year caused a back log in coal trains and the boom of oil is in need of trains hauling too.

As of 6.30.2014 Goldman Sachs is in the top 15 of institutional ownership of Arch coal shares.

  • Coal prices aren't yet close to the bottom, Goldman says [View news story]
    From http://bit.ly/Zscapj Web-site:
A cash ratio of 1.00 and above means that the business will be able to pay all its current liabilities in immediate short term. Therefore, creditors usually prefer high cash ratio. But businesses usually do not plan to keep their cash and cash equivalent at level with their current liabilities because they can use a portion of idle cash to generate profits. This means that a normal value of cash ratio is somewhere below 1.00.
Thus, we can infer that for ever bill Walter Energy has it holds 54 cent to the dollar, while Arch has $2.41 for every one dollar.

  • Monsanto: Let's Assume The Worst [View article]
Didn't Monsanto face a big fine in Brazil last year? Didn't France and Poland ban its corn seeds? And again in brazil this year its corn seeds didn't perform by preventing worms eating farmers' corn crops. Bt resistance pest are on the rise in brazil, china, india http://bit.ly/1oR1c2K

Alas, I hold no quarrel with Monsanto, but just log on to face book and you'll see multiple anti-Monsanto communities, pages, groups, and etc.

Does Monsanto still hold the farmer/crop insurance subsidy it bought from google? And I came up on this article because I've recently read an article that Monsanto, along with the dept. of Defense, has invested in Tekmira Pharmaceuticals (Canada) that could earn billions for the ebola virus. http://bit.ly/1oR1bvq

It's been reported as of the last few days that the ebola virus may be airborne, and while no long on the news ch. daily, it's still rampant in Africa. And believe it or not the Tekmira treatment also has agriculture elements to it as well.
