  • Macau stocks rally on possible graft-on trade [View news story]
Sometime in October LVS, MGM and Wynn's Hong Kong stock equivalents will be available to Shanghai stock traders. As Hong Kong and China have open their stock exchanges to each other for stock investing. And any foreigner can invest in the Hong Kong stock exchange. So Americans can buy A-shares if their broker is capable of doing so.
Casino HK stocks: MGM HK: 2282, Sands China Ltd. HK: 1928, Wynn Macau ltd. HK: 1128.
I'm surprised this isn't big news.

Yes it was based on coal gasification technology, but its feed stock was going to be petroleum coke which is often shorten to petcoke. This is not to be confused with coal or metallurgical coal or PCI coal. Petcoke is a residual fuel from oil refining. So from BP, Devon, and other oil producers that refine oil have petcoke.
Lake Charles products: methanol, hydrogen, CO2, sulfuric acid. and rare noble gases, e.g., argon. Using Exxon technologies methanol can be converted into gasoline. In the gulf states 70% of petcoke is often exported to Mexico which is burned without environmental concerns. CO2 could've have been transported via pipeline to Gulf of Mexico of operations for Enhance oil Recovery.

  • Update: Peabody Energy Raises Earnings Guidance But China Remains A Major Concern [View article]
Yes, china is going to ban high ash & high sulfur coal imports. The policy, or policies, will affect mostly Indonesia and Australian coal producers; the effect of the policy hasn't evolve. An analyst believe over 190M tons of thermal coal would be taken off the market. And I don't know why this isn't being reported but China has an abidance quantity of low grade coal with sulfur grades as high as 5-7% and ash content over 20%. That's why you see those iconic pictures in Beijing of coal ash. Utility producers in the States have been equipping "coal scrubbers" in the last decade. This is how US coal producers can overcome their competitors. I'm currently long aci.

  • Why Alibaba's Corporate Governance Is Not A Concern [View article]
I'm reiterating what was said in the WSJ earlier this week (last weekend ed. I think). You're not buying Alibaba since the Chinese gov't doesn't allow foreigners to own property inside china. You're buying a Cayman Island corp. that it in turns owns claim on the profit on whatever Alibaba claims it reports from China. So is Ma going to take his $22B and stiff his western investors. Jeez that's a lot of money. And boy weren't there a lot of chinese stock scams just 3 years ago on the Nasdaq and NYSE? And they were all based like the Cayman Island system.

I agree that Jack Ma has proven himself to be a Jeff Bezos. "Ebay is a shark in the ocean we are a crocodile in the Yangtze river." Interesting to is that Mr. Ma wants its company to be on par with Microsoft, Amazon in the future.

  • Met coal benchmark drops to six-year low, coal shares hit [View news story]
It's just like that moment in Bambi when the quails are talking!!!
Currently, holding arch with a substantial loss if sold.
The UN hosted a Climate conference last week in New York city. A march for climate change preceded the event in NY and around the globe in cities such as brazil, Belguim. Once, I saw this on tv i notice the correlation to btu, aci, anr, and cld.
Folks, just like natural gas is price to thermal coal, iron ore is priced to metallurgical coal. Vale, RIO and BHP are ramping up iron ore mining to ousts smaller players (namely Chinese corps.) in Australia akin to a OPEC-like agreement.
The steel producers are all up over 40% STLD, X, AKS.

  • Leucadia National Corp.: Liquidity And Credit Risk Analysis [View article]
Given that the 2nd largest exported item in america after low sulfur diesel is Petcoke and the 3rd is gasoline...

EIA says 6 countries represent over half of the importers with China being the biggest buyer. US utilities have been using less of Petcoke over the years since petcoke is a carbon rich fuel leading to higher CO2 emissions and the green movement.

Luk got money from the casino sale, I hope they didn't ditch the idea to upstart that new hedge fund with that ex-SAC fellow.

  • Betting On Glencore Xstrata, The Best Of Breed [View article]
If you're unaware of Century Aluminum, Marc Rich and his partners founded Century aluminum although under a different name. It was forced to changed its name due to Marc Rich buying oil from Iran in the late 70's. The united Steel workers union and Anheuser-Busch went on a political campaign against CENX. You can say Glencore started with Century Aluminum. Recently Rio sold an Alcan aluminum smelter to CENX in the USA.
