I wouldn't touch any of the GM and Chrysler cars. With them facing bankruptcy, I can't imagine any parts makers would want to make their spare parts. Ford will be in trouble soon too if the part makers don't get any bailout package to survive in drop in volume lost by GM and Chrysler.

Your proposal ridiculous to say the least. So the differentiating factor of buying a ford and chevy would just be the shape of the car? Then all cars would have intel inside logos? And your proposal would mean that Apple is an obsolete model?

Big 3 problems lies largely on 2 things, the labour union and their poor car design. Ford has learnt a lot from the japanese that they need to make cars based on global platforms to achieve economies of scale and at the same time flexibility in production line.

Each kind of business model be it vertical integration(apple) or horizontal integration(pc industry) has their own benefits, it all depends how the management manage their business and executes them. Apple used to have a failing vertical integrated business model, but they have evolutionized well and is reaping the benefits.

The PC which is horizontally integrated did very well in the past, but is being haunted by disfunctional products which has parts that dont work welll with one another resulted in the blue screen of death mentioned above.

Epeon, did it occur to you that car salesman religion was probably Sebring back in 91? Toyota and Honda had a hard time convincing people that they can make European quality cars back in the early 90s. After the RX and ES series, people are sold, and now Lexus/ Infiniti is being perceived in the same league as BMW or Merc.

People change minds, depending how Ford executes, they can gain back their lost customers if they do it right. The key decision you have to make when buying all these beleaguered Big 3 stocks is, do you think they can execute? I believe of the 3, only Ford can.

Remember 911? Remember Iraq war? The media, the pundits, the analysts, the "experts" all warned about the imminent end of the world. We were all so scared. We dared not go anywhere, we live in immense paranoia. But has it ended? This is how it felt 6 years back.
