The debt is being laundered away....and it is all part of the game. One big problem with valuation is that these "legacy assets" are not only increasing in volume but also changing in value, and they are doing this continuously, even as we speak. How would you mark to market if the market is whirling wildly around toward the drain?
In the meantime, heaven forbid anyone discovers the "true" value of said assets! The house of cards would fall instantly.
The author would be correct IF all this were happening in a vacuum. Good thing for all of us it is not. Value is relative, and correction is happening globally. It will be a bumpy ride, but things will settle.

I would add a couple more: Fed should sit tight on rate cuts at the moment, and lean harder on the Banks to lend. Indeed, further assistance to them should be conditional based on prudent but braver lending right now. Banks gotta jump in and start swimming again.
