the stock trades with a bond like yield. You get what you pay for. Companies buys back shares, and does all the right things for a slow growth business. Share buy backs and dividend growth will resume as debt from smokless is paid. Doesn't take much to make 10% /yr when the dividend is giving an 8% yield

If FedEx Can Compete with the U.S. Government, Why Can't Health Insurers? [View article]
A big detail that you forgot is that the US government already "fixes" prices in healthcare for many Americans. I would suggest compare the rate of government involvement and the increase in cost over the last 30 yrs. The correlation is 100%. Most of the people uninsured are young people. they don't want to pay for insurance at rates designed for senior citizens (they use 80% of health care). Give these people a simple policy for catostropic insurance (its cheap). Also it seeems everyone fogets what insurance is supposed to do. Hint: Its not for new eye glasses every other yr. CAr insurance is not for oil changes, its for major accidents. paying for simple office visits isn't insurance, its a deferred benefits plan.
Plan Orange: Killing the Mortgage Crisis Quickly [View article]
Just what we need the people that pay their mortgages now get to pay the clowns that bought multiple houses while you mortgage brokers gave 500000 loans to people that made 25k a yr. Forget it. Let them go bankrupt and let your mortgage business do the same. Low housing prices will be great for those that can actually afford them and have saved money for down payment. All that is needed is for new homeowners to have some skin in the home. 25-30% down.

ethanol from corn is one of the biggest boondogles in history. it takes 3 gallons of water to make one gallon of ethanol. there is a huge amount of waste. IT has a BTU value that is 72% of gas , and it cost more then gas. ITs all based on a permament government subsidy.
Dividends: There's No Such Thing as a Free Lunch on Wall Street [View article]
if one takes a close look at "growth stocks" what one sees for most part are companies that have failed to produce a single dollar for shareholders during the height of product cycles. Unless you buy and trade these stocks frequently its doubtful you will make money with most of them. Remember the NASDAQ average at current levels, doesn't even include all the companies that have gone out of business since 2000. The reality of growth stocks is its a way for managment and insiders to have an exit plan. Investors beware. Dividends have been documented to add 40% to the return over time.
Repricing Employee Stock Options: Disingenuous and Disrespectful [View article]
option repricing has consistently been one of the biggest scams against the average shareholder for years. Its not isolated to silicon valley. When they say "employees", the reality is quite different. Its actually a way for poor management to reward itself. The board of directors are no more then bobbing yes heads for management.
Higher taxes and government directed investment, means that sooner or later the private economy will whither. With fewer dolars available for investment future economic growth will go only to those sectors the government "prefers". Government energy policy will be contructed around a political philosphy, rather then economic or scientific basis. Expectations will raise hope but in the end illogical energy policy will substantially lower economic growth and give us high energy costs that are not necessary.
Investment: Move to companies that have dynamic international advantage embedded in their operations, strong balance sheets, good dividend growth prospects
New Accounting Practices Will Boost Bank Equity Values [View article]
your home mortgage is one of a kind. For all practical purposes it is an illiquid security with no market. Since no market exists is your mortgage is zero? I doubt it. Market to market for non trading securites where there is no market is an moronic approach of no value.
