The eBook Wars: What Publishers Should Do [View article]
"What??? Ideology alert."
not sure what you meant by your comment although i'm sure it was brilliant.
but for grins, let me explain what i meant by MY comment regarding why amzn won't be able to retain a major advantage they enjoy over local retail stores given the Dem's are in power: sales tax.
it's my belief that democrats are kind of 'tax happy'; that they hate to see an opportunity to tax anything and everything go to waste (silly and foolish thinking on my part i know, but humor me for a second).
i think we are going to see a national sales tax on internet sales AND i believe that internet based companies will be forced to collect taxes for the state in which the purchaser of products/services resides.
radical, wack-o thinking, i know.
but that's what i think.

amzn trading at a forward p/e of 60 and no cash. they are a retailer (a darn good one; the best). they sell things. lots of them. so does walmart (fwd p/e 13 and 2% dividend). difference is simple: you pay tax if buy @ walmart. the internet is a funny, wonderful thing for now.
think amzn will retain that 'difference' for long with the Dems in power?
aapl MAKES things that people buy, they continue to create UNIQUE products that many people seem to prefer. they have over 35 billion in cash and no debt. aapl has a fwd p/e of 22.
