The only thing that Twitter adds to what we already have is transmission mode (which isn't that amazing and a lot of which is already covered by technology we already have. Even on their own page, Twitter uses examples that are already covered by other forms of communication (Running late to a meeting? Like you can't use your BB email on your phone which already has every meeting attendee listed?).
As we've observed there is genuine fatigue towards social networking, but Twitter is unique that even before it has reached its user base peak, there are already people tired of it, not even of using it, but of hearing about it. The absurd notional valuations put on Twitter seem even more outlandish given the value and ROI that Newscorp has with MySpace.
There's also the fallacious belief that what we are Tweeting can be turned into bleeding edge advertising and product production data. Like most communication paradigm shifts, the more adopted it becomes the less value can be gained from its use because much of it becomes almost random noise (or Viagra).
Even though Twitter offers some ways of drowning out the noise (and touts being a way of stopping information overload), the scale from which we can garner useful information from the analytics needs to be found. 5+ Twitter subscriptions per user? 20+? 50+?
Overall, I see more flaws with Twitter than upside because so much of what we already do is already covered by phone, email, blogs, FB, and IM. Twitter doesn't replace any one of these things even partially.

The iphone is not going to stop the development of the mobile web. it will spur better development by competitors. Remember that not everyone has, wants, or needs an iphone based on the attributes of the iphone.
