Nortel to Employees: No Severance for You! [View article]
Actually, I think that the senior weenies who were "let go" received a lump some payment as opposed to the incremental payments. I have to wonder if Z knew that and that's the reason why he let the whole worthless bunch of them go at once. Just wondering.
What Would John Chambers Have Done for Nortel? [View article]
LastHopes comments to the contrary, I think that you're bang on with your comments. Nortel needed a radical change in strategy, organization, and leadership back when it would have actually mattered (2000 - 2005). Z actually looked like he was the one for the job but hasn't stepped up. He and his band of jackasses have failed and failed miserably. His leadership abilities have turned out to be wildly over rated, proving Motorola's decision not to make him their CEO a correct one.
While hindsight is both fun and 20/20, I don't think that it was required a few years ago to get Nortel on the right course. Chambers would have been the only one capable of turning Nortel around. He still may, yet, with Nortel's stock at the current levels. :-)
Nortel Cuts Few Jobs Than Expected; Four Senior Executives Depart [View article]
The decentralization of the company sure smells like a bust up is on the horizon, doesn't it? While I agree with beenhereb4's comments, the big difference this time is that there's no one at the helm that is from the legacy days. Z and crew have absolutely NO appreciation of Nortel's history. He and the rest of his worthless recruits will take their golden parachutes and bale. The BofD should fire the whole lot of them and cut to the chase, sale wise.
Nortel use to be a great company. The people there (below senior management) are great and deserve better than what they've gotten from these alleged golden boys.
While everyone within Nortel had high hopes that Mike Z would send us in the right direction, it's clear that his performance does not live up to the hype. He's left too many serious decisions to the telephony-inexperience... cronies that he brought on board like Joel "Slap Happy" Hackney, Dietmar "Am I Still At IBM?" Wendt, and the other "stellar", way overpaid management team that will cry all the way to the bank as they pass the unemployed ex-Nortelians that cared for the company.
