100% Yields on Ecuador Bonds: A Sign of the Times [View article]
great piece, keep up the good work. to the clown who says "what's new here" trying living through a hyperinflation in an industrialized economy instead of some backward ass agrarian based shit-hole called "Ecuador." His name was Hilter and he was responsible for the death of 10's of millions and the only "new" thing he and his cohorts created was stuff like jet planes, electronic communication, high output turbo-diesel engines and very nearly a nuclear bomb with the means to deliver it on a rocket. And don't think the name is not spoken in terms of admiration today both at home and abroad. Thank God for clowns like Hugo Chavez who will never be anything other than a meathead. Iran? Putin? Maybe someone in the good old USA? The word here is not "intervention" but fascism. Watch your freedoms closely here.
Bloomberg: Poverty and Pension Fears Drive Elderly Japanese to Crime [View article]
great story. i've added you to the watch list. are you implying that as "the economy" hits the skids crime rises? i know i'm being a little facetious here, but just trying to get at the insight based on old people who "have it made" still living a life of crime. i have this image of excited gray beards finally doing the whole "living on the lam" thing. Who knows, maybe a made for TV movie on this one. Seriously, though--Adolf Hitler said "the greater the lie the more they believe you." Do you believe in Hank Paulson? Or is he pulling off one of the biggest Heist's in American History? Has this even ever been attempted before let alone done?
Great Expectations for Obama, But Not the Markets [View article]
good bloggers here. Great Expectations of what exactly? Change? Or somthing new? Change is a literal canard, like same, oh, hey, look--the sun is rising in the east. Something new, on the other hand--something new is not just coming, it has arrived. Obviously its not the person of Barak Obama. An even more hilarious idea is that Democrats represent something new as well! (Bailouts for Detroit? There's some original thinking.) Barak Obama the name, however, does represent something big--and to many more than just me, obviously. I've been a huge fan of George Bush and still am--still, a very interested fan of Obama as well. (Why all those rich white people voting for the guy, for example? What do they know that so many others don't?) As so many of the bloggers have pointed out, :"these people" are openly saying the government is going to do something. Surprised? Or are you just waking up to the fact that we've been at war now for over 7 years?
What Does the Recent Saudi Gold Rush Mean? [View article]
why not a hunt brothers 2.0? maybe because this is bs, too! i mean, don't believe your own government but believe what someone says about "what the Saudi's are doing?"!!! Come on, people--WAKE UP! How many infantry divisions will the Saudi's get for all that gold? Any? Obviously not. Sorry, but no home security=no financial one either. Maybe all this is about "protecting the Saudi's and their oil wealth," CERTAINLY THE BRITISH THINK SO!, but that's assuming that governments don't act in their national interest, a dangerious assumption here. Does the US even get any of its oil from Saudi Arabia? They've killed thousands of our citizens WITH INTENT! Are we truly protecting them? Follow your own government's money--YOUR MONEY as some have called it--and you yourself may be well rewarded.
Can a Global Economy Be Managed One Nation at a Time? [View article]
easy on Fred, folks. this is the editor's pick! "no problem is solved by not talking," and while I definitely don't agree with the idea that "talking to Iran" is the way forward, if you're not talking at the G-20, you're not doing your job as a public official, just like not having a blog site is not the answer, too! The people speaking here would do well to ask--what have you ever demanded of your elected representative? Anything? Powerful people are asking...AND GETTING...right now. Does that bother you? Have you spoke to your Rep about it? Or are you afraid? You should be afraid if you are not, by the way. As the saying goes, just 'cause your paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you! There are simple reasons---"we just gave these companies billions of dollars and we're all getting pink slips and higher interest rates." Angry? YOU SHOULD BE! But you do have a literal voice--YOU CAN SPEAK YOUR MIND. So even though your vote for all intents and purposes is meaningless, your Constitution and the history behind it is not. Hate your government, despise it and aim for its destruction if you wish--there are good people working in there, though, and some of them have a job involving taking innocent human life without mercy. Over the last few years of few of them have even been arrested by our own government while in its service! Remember... though your leaders lie, "history" as in the study of the past does not. If you feel you are somehow standing for that, well, then you are a soldier indeed.
Dr. Phil's Deregulatory Prescription [View article]
CDS'S ARE A DEFINITE PROBLEM!!!!! Still, how has the government bailout solved this problem? Couldn't it be solved better by just declaring them illegal? And isn't the problem with BOTH Democrats and Republicans? No? Wasn't it Gore Vidal who said "two parties, one system"? A system based on lying, cheating and stealing? I'M SHOCKED TO HEAR THERE ARE VOTERS OUT THERE! Who knows, I've even heard the rumor that there is honorable activity going on right now in our public services and "Big Slasher D" is coming for, well, it's not just a him anymore. What will they do, those honorable men and women...
so a "credit defautl swap" as I understand it is the car you run your neighbor over with after setting his house on fire, by selling it short, is that correct?
Bailout vs. Bankruptcy, Obama Edition [View article]
great logic and its complete disregard by the political class. What will they do indeed! I know! Le't cut off funding for the "war" effort. That won't hurt anybody, right? Oooooooo.....don't you just feel all that peace and love.
Sinking Deeper into Recession While the Economic Commentariat Flounders [View article]
so do markets matter or not? Did you know the United States closed the US stock markete for the entire duration of WWI? Would it matter if they did so now? Would it matter to you?
the money on AIG has already been spent. Bye-Bye! If the Democrats have half a brain they will actually stop talking transparency and start talking ACCOUNTABILITY! WHERE DID THE MONEY GO? THEY JUST BLEW OVER A TRILLION DOLLARS IN A MATTER OF WEEKS.
Great Stuff! The cat's out of popularity bag on this one! This is to the Democrats what Iraq was to the Republicans, and the Dem's (and a few Republicans) know it. Obviously taking equity stakes in banks can be understood and measured as success/failure in a way rescuing the mortage market could never be (and don't we already have fannie and freddie you dumb ass socialist from Clevland?) In that sense it's an "understandable" use of taxpayer dollars. Is it a good use, though? Now the bailout demands are coming from all corners of the economy! Here's the problem with calling it a "Stabilization Plan." Doesn't that imply our banks are unstable? Are they? What does Kaskari know that nobody else does? Why should I buy a bank stock when the government who is giving them money says they're in trouble? My approach would be far simpler and in the words of Henry Kissinger "happen to be true" as well--we're giving money to perfectly healthy banks not because they need it but because we're creating a certainty of mega-winners once the dust settles on this one. Sure, a bunch of clowns from Chicago have taken over the executive branch in Washington, but New York is taking over the entire federal bureacracy lock, stock and barrel. Now if only the Dems would proceed to lose the war you could then see NYC actually run the place.
so who get's the bailout money then? In other words, who was responsible for getting paid once the "unthinkable" happened? Obviously Goldman Sachs. Who else, though? Senators? Congressman? State and local govnerments?
interest rates are soaring in the corporate bond arena, but is issuance? Obviously cable companies have a voracious need for debt because the competition is so ferocious and the need to expand simply a matter of survival. How about telecom bonds, though? Are those getting clobbered, too? I see their stocks have risen smartly since the collapse in October.
As Italy Enters Its Fourth Recession Since 2000, Who Will Bail Out Unicredit? [View article]
wow. An Austrian bank collapsed in because it got caught up in some bizarre commodity trading scheme. Do you remember that story? What was the bank? I thought it was some electrical engineering bank or something like that? Most historians argue that the Great Depression began with the collapse of the Austrian bank CreditAnstallt (spelling?) Do you know any of this history? Are we looking at something similar now? And how does Italy have a sovreign debt default when it is part of the Euro currency? By definition it can't--it would be more like the State of NY defaulting, and therefore the public sector would collapse. What are the social ramifications of such a thing? How about military spending, too? My God, the ramifications truly are staggering.
