Earnings Preview: Boeing http://seekingalpha.com/article/167602-earnings-preview-boeing?source=feed#comment-722310 722310
Sales have been in the can since cargo traffic fell off the cliff last fall and continues to be decimated - the only saving grace is that there have been zero 747-8F cancellations.

www.fleetbuzzeditorial.../

This is a one off charge that will likely saddle the next few quarters with dead weight until it flies and enters service.

The real issue is the 787 and whether the fix works, since its being installed concurrently on the flight test airplane and static test airplane.

If it flies by year end, I would expect zero deliveries in FY10. Even ANA is gearing up for first delivery late on in Q4 2010/Q1 2011.]]>

Boeing: The Emperor's New 787 Dreamliner http://seekingalpha.com/article/151290-boeing-the-emperor-s-new-787-dreamliner?source=feed#comment-603544 603544 BA) 787 Dreamliner was originally scheduled to fly in September 2007."

No it wasnt.

There was never an accurate first flight date - just media speculation trying to make something believable.

The fact that the rest of the aforementioned piece here is wrong about the timetable Boeing laid out after the June 23 delay shows that the author clearly missed what was said.

Boeing said it would be several weeks before a new schedule was announced. The earnings on July 23 is barely one calendar month, let alone "several" weeks.

Alas, thank Boeing you're not an engineer because your 787 coverage here is awfully shallow and with blinkered vision.

The previous comments to this article demonstrate this weakness aptly.]]>

Despite Panoply of Issues, Are Boeing Shares Too Cheap to Ignore? http://seekingalpha.com/article/110841-despite-panoply-of-issues-are-boeing-shares-too-cheap-to-ignore?source=feed#comment-332302 332302
And what does that have to do with the price of bread?

I'm an equal opportunity critic - its just that I criticise aspects of Airbus no one dares to question - like its questionable, junk rated airlines that prop up the A320 backlog.

Or perhaps that almost a third of the A380 rests with one customer and over half the A350 is supported by just three MidEast airlines.

Boeing only gets close on the 747-8I with Lufthansa, but is nowhere near as exposed or reliant upon a handful of key customers for its newest airplanes.

If that constitutes being "anti-Airbus", so be it.

Its almost "criminal" in the aerospace sector if one questions Airbus it seems...]]>

Boeing's backlog will suffer cancellations in 2009, no question.

However, in contrast to Airbus which already sports triple-digit terminations in '08, Boeing's fortunes are far better spread, not reliant on one or two customers for any of its projects save the 747-8I.

www.fleetbuzzeditorial.../

I'll wager now that Airbus in 09 has further cancellations and more than Boeing.

Sure, the 787 is a mess, but its the airplane the market wants - look at the orderbook despite the setbacks.

The stock is seriously undervalued, most notably due to GS's dubious commentary this year while failing to analyse the sector properly.]]>

Boeing's Dreamliner Delays Are a Nightmare http://seekingalpha.com/article/110735-boeing-s-dreamliner-delays-are-a-nightmare?source=feed#comment-329782 329782
Sure, its a set back, but compensation claims aside, with oil costs coming down, capacity being slashed and jets parked, the "rush" for the 787 can wait.

It has a SOLID orderbook and aside from 1 cancellation, it will continue to be the future twin aisle jet of choice.

www.fleetbuzzeditorial...

Getting the 787 airborne is one thing, getting it RIGHT is far more critical.]]>

In a bizarre twist, the strike has aided Boeing, since many carriers have "deferred by default" and are not in any rush for new airplanes.

www.fleetbuzzeditorial.../

The overall risk of cancellations remains high for both, however, Goldman Sachs deliberate price downgrades of BA stock means its a great time to get in.

Do you think any of the three current A380 operators (SQ/EK/QF) now care aside from the fact they could have been operating bigger fleets?

Of course not. They got the airplane(s) they ordered.

It will be no different for the 787 and its 50+ airlines that have ordered over 900 of these game-changing airplanes.

If Boeing had "lost credibility" - perhaps someone can rationally explain why orders for the 787 family STILL continue to roll in.

"Lost credibility" indeed...]]>

Boeing Union Workers Ratify Contract, Ending Strike http://seekingalpha.com/article/103553-boeing-union-workers-ratify-contract-ending-strike?source=feed#comment-296927 296927
Of the 6 airframes needed, not one is yet fully complete, and parts for Airplane #6 havent even arrived in the factory.

I dont think SPEEA will strike - they'll have seen the IAM vote in a barely unchanged contract. They'd be wise to agree whatever is given and continue working rather than antagonise their employer, who would only happily send design work to its bureau in Russia.]]>
