Quit living the past. Both GM and Ford build as good if not better vehicles than the Japanese. Buick has outscored Lexus more than once or twice on quality ratings and Ford is leading the pack overall in that arena. How many American vehicles do you see in Korea or Japan...the answer is virtually none. I believe it is time Americans wake up and support are own like they do.

This guy is really grabbing straws to bash unions and blue collar workers. I believe they gave up quite a bit. They took close to a 50% pay cut going down to $14 a hr. Along with no longer having defined pensions and health care when they retire which I doubt will ever happen working for $14 a hr. They also gave up some holidays and cost living according to a friend that works there. I can't imagine trying to raise a family on that wage. I couldn't pay my car ins.,utility bills and still put food and clothing on the backs of the kids let alone pay increasing property taxes. I believe this country needs to examine its trade policy. They have been talking about opening the markets of Korea and Japan for decades now and they are still closed to American made products all while they have pretty much free access to ours.

I agree, my point is that we lost millions of non unions jobs also so to put the loss of jobs at the unions feet is just showing how ignorant some people are.

How many GM , Ford or Chrysler products do the government of Japan, Korea, or Germany buy? None! Enough said. I applaud Obama for telling them to buy domestic. They being the above mentioned have had closed markets to American made products for decades. Wake up America before you find yourself living in just another 3rd world country.

It is nice to see a journalist who gets it or at least how important the auto industry is to the health of the U.S. economy. It appears that the economy and standard of living in this country has been in decline lock step with our domestic auto industry. How can we expect the Detroit auto makers to compete when the country of Japan and Germany subsidize their industry and have closed markets to U.S. products. Just look at what GM spends on health care. Toyota and Honda have a national health care program along with closed markets. Oh and lets not forget our South Korean friends who also have their markets closed to American products but also ship a million or so vehicles into this country. If you don't believe me take a trip over there and see for yourself. You can bash the domestics all you want but when their competitors have a whole nation supporting them it is hard to win. Unless Americans wake up and connect the dots they will find they have no industries left. They will soon find themselves living their life as every other 3rd world person.
