  • Buy Liberty Capital at a 66% Discount to NAV [View article]
I purchased a fair number of shares of LCAPA below $5.00 about two months back. So, I don't need to be convinced about the value of this stock. However, you built one giant premium into your math. LCAPA can not sell their 2.6bn for $10.54. Matter of fact, they wouldn't be able to sell 2.6bn shares of SIRI for it's current $.40. You might as well take SIRI out of the equation all together.

  • Apple and Amazon's Open Embrace [View article]
Your article makes a variety of points. I want to address just one, cannibalization. There was no chance I was ever going to buy a Kindle. However, I did download the app to my Touch and bought one book. Even if I never buy another, that's one book that Amazon sold that they wouldn't have. Btw, it's easy to read the ebook on the touch.

  • Will Apple Increase iPhone Value with Rumored Verizon Deal? [View article]
I'm locked into Verizon because of the family plan, and it's the only service that works in the rural area where I live. Every time I visit an Apple Store I make sure I tell a sales person I would own an iPhone if it worked with Verizon. If Apple did work out an agreement I would trade in my four year old phone in an instant and the rest of my family would also, as soon as they were eligible. That said, I highly doubt Apple and Verizon will get together, if for no other reason than Verizon still believes their V-Cast is going to make them money (which is why I shorted them just prior to their last earnings.).

  • Recession Takes a Bite Out of Mac Sales [View article]
Financial articles are supposed to enlightened the readership, provide insight that perhaps isn't widely known. This article regurgitates the reasons why Apple stock has gone from $200 to $90. Do you believe $90 is too high, that it will continue south from here? Or are you merely restating the obvious, without making any predictions on stock price, because it's the easy thing to do?

As an aside, a person buying a netbook would never have considered a Mac in any economic environment because they're "too expensive." The odds of Apple losing a current customer to a netbook are close to zero. Losing a potential "switcher?" Also close to zero.

  • Retailers on the Extinction List [View article]
When I read a financial blog that deals with companies that I know nothing about I take the information at face value. I assume the blogger knows what he's talking about. Occasionally I read an article on a company that I actually know something about, and if the article is contrary to what I know, I realize the blogger doesn't have a clue about that company. So, why would I believe anything else from that author? This particular author offers an opinion on Blockbuster, and if I were uninformed I would stay away from BBI (and BBIB) or perhaps even short them. Fact is Blockbuster is in good shape, especially at their current price (there's some recent articles from knowledgeable folks supporting my contention). There is very good evidence to support the belief that their stock price will double this year. There is also very good evidence that at some point down the road reality will hit everyone's darling, Netflix, and their share price will plummet. There's no point in my trying to "prove" my point in this comment. Do some research or make a note and watch what happens this year. I'm long BBIB (at least until it gets to $2.00.)

  • Fed Up with Sirius' Childish Customers  [View article]
You're right, but then again you're not. You're right that terrestrial radio is not an option. If I'm stuck with AM/FM for brief periods it's painful. So, after three years with XM I've just renewed my subscription. But that doesn't change the fact that what I have now is less than what I had three months ago. My favorite stations have not improved or stayed the same, they are less than what they use to be. If six months from now Sirius management said, "we have to put in one commercial an hour or we're going off the air," would subscribers put up with it? Yes they would, but the product would be less than what it had been. That's how XM subscribers feel today.

  • An Alternative Perspective on Apple's iPod Growth [View article]
It's silly to suggest that there are 175m unique iPod users out there. When you consider how many people own a dead iPod, or more than one, the number of users becomes significantly lower. Then you factor in how many potential customers, such as myself, who would love to have an iPhone but CAN'T because they're anchored to AT&T, and you further reduce the number of potential customers. That said, I own three working iPods and will soon be getting an iPod Touch. Do and article explaining how 9+ year olds, who all ready have an iPod will be asking for a Touch for Christmas to take advantage of the App Store.
