  • Why Silicon Valley Should Take Over the Auto Industry [View article]
The way you are talking, there will be no middle class. If no one is working in factories making cars/car parts, (and paying taxes) how do you plan to pay for everything? The Military? Social Security? Healthcare?

Silicon Valley doesn't make anything in America. It is all made in China. And have you had to call Dell or MSN support lately?....you are talking to someone in India.

A few brainiacs in San Jose will have to pay for all the baby boomers' social security and the country's healthcare. All the blue collar workers won't be middle class, they will be part of the "poor class."

The battery companies (in Spain, China, Asia) that make the new car batteries will be very busy.....but not Americans.

What will all the people who work for OSHA do if we are all driving around in golf carts?

By the way, where is all this electricity going to come from? As we stop buying oil/gasoline, don't you think that electricity will be the new way to "gouge" Americans? You will have to decide, "do I want my refrigeratior run...or my furnace....or re-charge my car."

About social security....isn't it just a big Ponzi scheme??....it's already in big trouble, but with no one paying into it, how is anyone going to get anything out of it? If no one can collect, then what do you plan to do with the people? To the ovens?

Last, maybe your idea will solve the problem with the illegals. They will have to return to Mexico because no one will have any money (except a few thousand in Silicon Valley.....who will be replaced as soon as someone can figure out how to "outsource their jobs.)

Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

  • CNBC's Closing Bell: Ford Stands Above the Pack [View article]
The Ford Fusion that went 1400 miles on one tank of gas shows what Ford can do. It is good that Ford didn't attach itself to the government handouts. I think there is a Ford in my future (portfolio & garage.)

  • Four Myths from Detroit's Auto Show [View article]
I remember when Ford made the "Falcon". It was 1963. Fuel effecient and cheap. NO ONE WOULD BUY IT.
Then Ford built the Pinto, Bobcat, Comet, Maverick, Fairmont.....great mileage....none of these are built today.

GM built the Corvair. Got great gas mileage. NO ONE WOULD BUY IT.

Don't tell me that people want little/tiny cars that get good mileage.

People want BIG cars....Americans are BIG. America is BIG.

Build BIG cars that get good mileage. That is what we all want.

  • Say No to the Auto Industry Beggars [View article]
I read that even if GM went bankrupt, the judge will most likely rule that GM would still have to pay for their 500,000+ retiree pensions (as judges have done in the past for other companies.)

So, how's chapter 11 going to help GM? I guess Obama will pay for all their medical insuance)....Utopia.

These idiot columnists and talking heads on FOXNews and CNN kill me. I'd like to see them work for 30 years in a factory, bell-to-bell. I bet they think manual labor is a hispanic.

Oh, yeah, and I didn't hear anyone talk about Pelosi's personal JET that she flies back & forth to California every week....who's paying for that? Any other politicans flying around in private jets?....Kerry? Kennedy? I wonder. Why don't we hear about that?

    Smarty Pants.
Are you aware that the Japanese gov't subsidises their auto industry? They have never had to worry about making a profit. In addition, their profits go back to Japan.

When the American auto companies are gone, do you think that the Japanese will raise their prices? Gee whiz. Just maybe.

My father worked as an electrician for an auto company and had to sell the car and take a bus for 2 years to pay the hospital bill when I was born (1946.) So, when the UAW began (1946) it was a good thing.

The trouble with the UAW is that it got too greedy. But are they the only ones?

Maybe greed is a problem for all the unions... for nurses, postal workers, teachers, lawyers, actors, professors, publishers, pilots, etc. If I follow your line of thought, we ought to put them all out of work and replace them with Chinese and Japanese teachers, lawyers, nurses, pilots, actors, camera men, etc.

Or is it only the bad, evil UAW that is the cause of all of our problems in the USA?

Sounds like everyone got too greedy, or we wouldn't be in the meltdown we are in now.

I wonder what who will benefit if GM & F go out of business. Let's see. The gov't will have to pick up ALL their pensions (taxpayers) and ALL their medical/medicare (taxpayers) and ALL the foreclosures (taxpayers).

Then, there are the suppliers. The gov't will have to pay all the pensions (taxpayers), and all their medical/medicare insurance (taxpayers) and all their foreclosures (taxpayers.)

Then, there are the dealers. The gov't will have to pay all their pensions (taxpayers) and all their medical/medicare (taxpayers) and all their foreclosures (taxpayers.)

Then there are all the "un-intended" consequences. Less need for doctors, dentists, eye doctors, teachers, grocery stores, restaurants, insurance (car, life, etc), clothing, vacations, banks, cable TV, gasoline, cars, planes, trains, computers, newspapers, etc. Cities will have less money from less taxes/property taxes, etc. So, the teachers, firemen, policemen, city workers, officials will be let go. (Maybe, if THEIR UNIONS don't mind, they may have to take a pay cut?...)

Do you have the picture yet? Does your job fall into that catagory?

Now, let's imagine we have another war. A war with China. Russia. Korea. Do you think Japan will side with the USA? Not.

So, let's see. Who do you think will build our jets? tanks? ships? jeeps? I guess if we ask China very nicely, and if they are bombing us too badly, they just might build us a few hum-vees. Right.
Wake up, America. We need industry allot more than we need a service industry.

What do you think pulled us out of WWII? It wasn't a hamburger flipper or a bank teller or a wall street junkie.
    It was industry.
