  • What Happened To Amazon's Diluted Shares?
    Diluted Shares460458460461453

Amazon's 8-K submitted to the SEC says:

Diluted Shares for 3 month period = 461

Diluted Shares for 12 month period = 453 (the same value as common shares, meaning there are no diluted shares...)

If 461 diluted shares for Q4 is correct, then I calculated the annual diluated shares should be around 459.7 rounded up to 460. Using 460 diluted shares, their annual net income loss would be 8 cents per diluted shares instead of 9 cents, no big deal.

Anyone know what happened? How can preparers make a typo like this, and accountants not catch it. I hope I'm wrong and someone can educate me, but I don't get it.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours.
