GM Bankruptcy? Probability Using Options [View article]
The Treasury Dept. believes that beneath decades of financial issues and labor problems is buried an American icon that truly knows how to make great cars.
Are Jobs in the U.S. Just "Smoke and Mirrors' also. Hasn't this recession taught us anything. That we are all interconnected. When I lose my job and can't spend money at your place of business etc.. right on down the line. I will gladly pay a few extra bucks for an American Made product to help myself and my neighbors, will you? Or will you continue to buy your foreign goods, where most of the money goes overseas and is not spent in this Country? Wake up People! It is the only the giant global companies that continue to push for Free Trade, only because it benefits them financially. These companies that are based here in the U.S. have No Loyalty to America! Shipping our jobs to "Slave Labor" countries, and we are suppose to compete with 2 dollar a day wages? Buy American, even if it does cost you a few extra bucks !

Every one is talking about the "legacy costs" of GM retirees. Don't forget that GM has been building vehicles in the US for 100 years, and the "foreign transplants" have only been here for less than 20, therefore they have very few retirees. This will "flip flop" in the next 5-10 years as GM retirees die off, and are replaced with much younger workers, and the transplants start to get retirees. Is the idea of just taking away the health care and pensions of GM retirees, so that they will die off all the sooner and GM will become more profitable faster? Gm retirees are dieing off everyday. GM will be hugely profitable in the coming years with the new workforce making just $14.00 per hour.
Doubtful That Chrysler, GM Will Avoid Bankruptcy [View article]
Let me remind every one that the 1.1 billion that GM is going to save with the concessions from the U.A.W., is 1.1 billion less that GM workers will be spending in their local communities. The home improvement store, lawn care, doctors, restaurants, entertainment , will ALL see a drop in their business.
How to Deal with the Automakers' Crisis in Confidence [View article]
General Motors was well on its way to becoming one of the "most profitable" car companies in the world as a result of the 2007 agreement with the U.A.W. Seeking Alpha finally has someone on there staff that gets it. That this mess has been beyond EVERY carmakers control. My only question to you is: What would you do? Just take away the retirees pensions?
Problems That Detroit Bailout I Doesn't Address [View article]
The congress has exacerbated the problem with the whole process of the hearings. People are sitting back and waiting to see what is going to happen. If the idiots in Washington would have just came out a month ago and said that there was No Way they were going to let our domestic industrial base disappear as a result of the Wall street fiasco, supported the Big 3 and encouraged Americans to go out and buy cars..we may not be in the situation we are now in. But the Republicans are so bitter about losing the election, that the few remaining Repubs want to take it out on organized labor and the regular working people, (for whom they have never done anything for). This whole idea of wanting them to go into bankruptcy is just an attempt to break the Union, and screw the retirees.
As Gas Prices Fall, Fuel Economy Loses Importance to Auto Shoppers [View article]
Great, the truth is finally coming out. Seeking Alpha has been trashing GM Ford and Chrysler for a long time now for continuing to build big trucks and SUV's. They have continued to build those vehicles because people wanted them! and they still do! This whole "auto bailout" has been co-opted by the environmentalists who see this as an opportunity to FORCE their agenda on the entire country, and the domestic automakers. This is social engineering at its best! It is analogous to the smoking laws and bans going into effect all over this country. The powers that be have been telling people to quit, but some just won't. So they are harassed, taxed, made to be pariahs and are generally looked down on. But this is still the land of the FREE right? Where we make our own life decisions? But if the decisions that "we" make (smoking, driving a hummer) don't jive with those in power, they will one way or anther, through taxation, or getting restrictive laws passed, force their agenda on the rest of us. The lawmakers and SeekingAlpha seem to think that "they" know what is best for us and the country, and that we are not "educated' enough to make our own decisions.
Detroit's Big Three and the Democrats' Economic Illiteracy [View article]
Of course GM has a lot more retirees than those working you moron! They have been building vehicles in this country for over 100 years. Toyota and Honda don't have many retirees because they haven't been building vehicles here long enough to have retirees. Most of GM's older workers are leaving and being replaced by $14.00 hour younger replacements.with much less benefits. Ten years down the road, the tables will be just the opposite, where Toyota and Honda will start to get a bunch of US retirees and GM's workforce will be younger and lower payed with fewer retirees. I suppose you want to take the health care from the retirees that punished their bodies for 30 plus years on that assembly line you little pencil pusher?

I cannot believe that the Republicans are so bitter about losing the election that they are going to take it out on GM , the UAW and the whole country. Why can't they think about the country as a whole just once! GM built millions of trucks and SUV's because people wanted them! Its not GM's fault that gas went to $4.00 plus and those people that wanted that SUV or truck can no longer afford to drive it. Do all you "green" people want the electric VOLT to die? GM is on the cutting edge of "green" and new technologies! The UAW has agreed to a 50% wage cut for new hires, and is taking over the retiree health care in 2010. This mess was created by wall street, GM was well on the way in their restructuring , and they were caught off guard just like EVERYONE was with the wall street meltdown.
GM Bailout Would Be Agony for Taxpayers [View article]
Hey John, Do you think that after the UAW takes over the retiree health care, the wages go down to $14.00, and some benefits are taken away, that the price of that vehicle will go down one dime? Do you really think that a penny of all that cost savings is going to be passed on to the consumer? Dream on, all that cost savings will just go to more CEO pay and bonuses to management and to shareholders. But you will sure be happy to see those autoworkers take that huge pay cut won't you?

What you are saying Benjamin, is that "company Ecstacy" paid there employees very little, gave them no benefits, basically treated them like crap, and made loads of money on the backs of their hard working employees, and you are saying that is a good thing? I am so sick and tired of hearing that GM's labor force makes $70 per hour, that is such a load of crap, and you know it. I got another clue for you, GM was building what the consumer wanted...everybody and his brother wanted an SUV or a truck as their second or third vehicle, and GM made millions of them for them. It was not GM's fault that gas went to $4.00 plus and all of a sudden all those people that wanted that SUV coudn't afford to drive it anymore. The UAW has already agreed to a 50% cut in wages for new employees , and the UAW will be taking over the retiree health care, so GM's labor and legacy costs have already been addressed. Unions helped create the middle class in this country, which is disappearing just as fast as the Bank Bail-out money is. When all those autoworkers are making $14.00 per hour, thats all the less that they will be able to spend where all you labor and union bashers work. All this talk of "don't bailout GM" or "where is it all going to end" is nothing but a not so veiled attack on the workers and the unions in this country. The Republicans are so bitter about losing the election, that they are going to take it out on labor unions, by blocking a GM bailout.

All the talk about not bailing out the automakers, where is it going to stop etc.. is nothing but another attack on labor and unions. For your information, the U.A.W. has already agreed to all replacement workers wage to be reduced 50% to $14.00 per hour and the the union is going to assume the retiree health care liability (gm will pay into it then they are done with it) so GM's labor and legacy costs have already been addressed. And when GM, Ford and Chrysler are paying half the wages, do you think ANY of that savings will be passed onto the consumer. The price of that vehicle wont go down a dime. All that savings will go into CEO bonuses, to the stockholders, etc... But all you labor and union bashers will sure be happy won't you, to see us take that huge pay cut, that's all the less we will have to spend WHERE YOU WORK. Oh, and by the way, labor unions helped create the middle class in this country, which is disappearing just as fast as the bailout money to the banks is.

I am so sick and tired of hearing how the automakers insisted on making gas guzzling suv's and trucks! The Public wanted them! and they still do. Look down your street, every other house has a truck or suv as the second or third car in the driveway. People wanted them and GM build them for them. It was not GM's fault that gas went to $4 plus and people can no longer afford to drive the suv or truck they so badly wanted. When was the last time any of you GM and American Auto bashers even went and looked at a GM vehicle? GM's quality can stand up against any auto maker out there, including Toyota.
