GM Bankruptcy? Probability Using Options [View article]
The Treasury Dept. believes that beneath decades of financial issues and labor problems is buried an American icon that truly knows how to make great cars.
Are Jobs in the U.S. Just "Smoke and Mirrors' also. Hasn't this recession taught us anything. That we are all interconnected. When I lose my job and can't spend money at your place of business etc.. right on down the line. I will gladly pay a few extra bucks for an American Made product to help myself and my neighbors, will you? Or will you continue to buy your foreign goods, where most of the money goes overseas and is not spent in this Country? Wake up People! It is the only the giant global companies that continue to push for Free Trade, only because it benefits them financially. These companies that are based here in the U.S. have No Loyalty to America! Shipping our jobs to "Slave Labor" countries, and we are suppose to compete with 2 dollar a day wages? Buy American, even if it does cost you a few extra bucks !

The congress has exacerbated the problem with the whole process of the hearings. People are sitting back and waiting to see what is going to happen. If the idiots in Washington would have just came out a month ago and said that there was No Way they were going to let our domestic industrial base disappear as a result of the Wall street fiasco, supported the Big 3 and encouraged Americans to go out and buy cars..we may not be in the situation we are now in. But the Republicans are so bitter about losing the election, that the few remaining Repubs want to take it out on organized labor and the regular working people, (for whom they have never done anything for). This whole idea of wanting them to go into bankruptcy is just an attempt to break the Union, and screw the retirees.

Hey John, Do you think that after the UAW takes over the retiree health care, the wages go down to $14.00, and some benefits are taken away, that the price of that vehicle will go down one dime? Do you really think that a penny of all that cost savings is going to be passed on to the consumer? Dream on, all that cost savings will just go to more CEO pay and bonuses to management and to shareholders. But you will sure be happy to see those autoworkers take that huge pay cut won't you?

What you are saying Benjamin, is that "company Ecstacy" paid there employees very little, gave them no benefits, basically treated them like crap, and made loads of money on the backs of their hard working employees, and you are saying that is a good thing? I am so sick and tired of hearing that GM's labor force makes $70 per hour, that is such a load of crap, and you know it. I got another clue for you, GM was building what the consumer wanted...everybody and his brother wanted an SUV or a truck as their second or third vehicle, and GM made millions of them for them. It was not GM's fault that gas went to $4.00 plus and all of a sudden all those people that wanted that SUV coudn't afford to drive it anymore. The UAW has already agreed to a 50% cut in wages for new employees , and the UAW will be taking over the retiree health care, so GM's labor and legacy costs have already been addressed. Unions helped create the middle class in this country, which is disappearing just as fast as the Bank Bail-out money is. When all those autoworkers are making $14.00 per hour, thats all the less that they will be able to spend where all you labor and union bashers work. All this talk of "don't bailout GM" or "where is it all going to end" is nothing but a not so veiled attack on the workers and the unions in this country. The Republicans are so bitter about losing the election, that they are going to take it out on labor unions, by blocking a GM bailout.

All the talk about not bailing out the automakers, where is it going to stop etc.. is nothing but another attack on labor and unions. For your information, the U.A.W. has already agreed to all replacement workers wage to be reduced 50% to $14.00 per hour and the the union is going to assume the retiree health care liability (gm will pay into it then they are done with it) so GM's labor and legacy costs have already been addressed. And when GM, Ford and Chrysler are paying half the wages, do you think ANY of that savings will be passed onto the consumer. The price of that vehicle wont go down a dime. All that savings will go into CEO bonuses, to the stockholders, etc... But all you labor and union bashers will sure be happy won't you, to see us take that huge pay cut, that's all the less we will have to spend WHERE YOU WORK. Oh, and by the way, labor unions helped create the middle class in this country, which is disappearing just as fast as the bailout money to the banks is.

I am so sick and tired of hearing how the automakers insisted on making gas guzzling suv's and trucks! The Public wanted them! and they still do. Look down your street, every other house has a truck or suv as the second or third car in the driveway. People wanted them and GM build them for them. It was not GM's fault that gas went to $4 plus and people can no longer afford to drive the suv or truck they so badly wanted. When was the last time any of you GM and American Auto bashers even went and looked at a GM vehicle? GM's quality can stand up against any auto maker out there, including Toyota.
