I work in the auto industry at the dealership level and have studied the business for quite some time. I would love to see a Lee Iaaccoca like comeback for the big three again but here are your problems. First and foremost, the Japanese have already filled the void. At first they brought us compact cars that were tough to love but gained a strong foothold over time. Now they are dominating the midsize segment and can produce a full sized truck and sport utility. When chrysler hit one out of the park with the Caravan, they were unchalenged by everyone espcecially the foreign compettion. Maybe there are grounbreaking products on the drawing boards of of the big three but it seems hard to believe that they can pull off a comeback of that magnitude all at the same time.
