  • How will Netflix (NFLX) finance its steadily rising streaming content costs? Long-time bear Rocco Pendola thinks the company, which recently announced a major convertible offering, will do it by selling off their DVD division. However, he's skeptical a suitor will line up for the streaming business, and thinks big media outfits will take further steps to pool their online video offerings and "box out the middlemen."  [View news story]

  • Netflix (NFLX +3.8%) rallies after the House passes a bill allowing its videos to be shared through social networking sites. Meanwhile, Reed Hastings' colorful comments at a UBS conference are still making waves. Among other things, Hastings said he was previously convinced Netflix shares would soon reach $1,000, and compared his company's content-purchasing moves to the "Moneyball" tactics of the Oakland A's.  [View news story]
Content owners want high bandwidth costs to protect from illegal downloaders. ISP's also want higher costs. NFLX shouldn't want higher costs. I don't see a solid future. They own nothing, a few servers?

  • Time Warner Head Bearish On Netflix, Bullish On TV Everywhere [View article]
$RCI Roger's has a history. But, the CRTC has blamed them for throttling.

So, Netflix should be our advocate on this...cheaper bandwidth means more movies to download... but all they did was make smaller files.

  • Time Warner Head Bearish On Netflix, Bullish On TV Everywhere [View article]
Sorry bit of a rant here....
The tone of netflix 'free trial' when 85% of the cost is going to the ISP's? They shouldve been more up front and said we'll give you this -but it will cost this because of nazi ISP who are throttling etc.

*stealing the content with torrents is 85% the cost. I bet there is a bigger spread on bandwidth prices.
    movie/night = 4 gb HD
4x30 =120 gb. No one offers this service bandwidth level to me. To get it I get charged double. I get unlimited then. So for 200% costs (140CAD) I can have a great free trial.
then they'll want me to pay for it. hehe.
add to that a july price wonder they left in droves. bills too high not enough content. Bad connectivity.

So nope dont like the business model until bandwidths prices plummet and content owners get busy.
