No more rabbit ears after Feb 2009, unfortunately.
Our local library is poorly funded, little used, and rapidly becoming obsolete. Public libraries may be one casualty of a so-called depression, if they're not already doomed.
However I agree with your overall point ... luxuries being perceived as necessities, people unwilling to give them up.
