  • Buy Before Earnings Season [View article]
This story from today's wires is worth considering in light of your point #2. Remember, overly optimistic reports by CEO's also carry onerous consequences:
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Chief executives of major U.S. corporations are more pessimistic than they were three months ago about their business and the economy over the next six months, the Business Roundtable reported Tuesday. The CEO confidence index fell to negative 5.0 in the first quarter from 16.8 in the fourth quarter. It was at 79.5 a year ago. The CEOs expect the economy to contract 1.9% in 2009. Over the next six months, about two-thirds of CEOs expect lower sales, lower capital spending and fewer jobs at their company. About a quarter expect sales to rise in the next six months, while less than 10% expect to increase hiring or capital spending.

  • Let's Clarify "The Worst Economy Since...." Debate [View article]
dlaw, the author is not in denial, he is just stating facts. Another point worth remembering, in the 1920's most families were one wage earner units so if "dad" lost his job all the family income was gone. Many families now have two bread winners. A statistic that would be interesting: what percentage of families are without income? Bet the 20's pain trounces anything we are seeing now.
Nevertheless, I understand your frustration with folks finding silver linings during a hard time. If you have lost your job, your unemployment rate is 100% and it's hard. Been there.
