Point 3 (TBS International (TBSI)) is correct, but you picked a lousy example from the shipper group. You need to look at the age of the fleet, contracts in place, finances/dividend policy, and -- obviously -- chart patterns, which are reflective of what's happening to your investment.
Here are four of the major players, with one year returns (LOSSES) and yield at today's prices:
We could throw in a lot of others too. I like dry bulk shippers at current prices and at this point in the international economy. Supply/demand disruptions and credit problems actually seem to be working in these companies' favor. The temperature gauge for these companies is the Baltic Dry Index (investmenttools.com/fu... ), which has clearly bottomed and must increase at least 100% from the present levels to reflect dry bulk shipping's normal level of commerce.

Some of us watch potential investments like AECOM Technology (ACM) closely to determine if, when and how much to invest. The usual advisory services are okay, but a nice macro perspective like this is what helps me make my decisions.
