A Few Trends Accelerated by the Recession [View article]
TMark: Great research and appreciate the article.
I noticed about 20 years ago that companies didn't want to cover their employee retirements anymore....started thinking about investing in my own future.....so I'm okay for now. I only wish that other Americans would have done the same.
We've come full circle - we have to take care of ourselves once again.
The Muddle Through Economy, R.I.P.? [View article]
Great article. Question is: How do we stop the Congress and White House from making the disease worse? I'm at a loss on how any of this can be turned around. The Obamas feel they have a public mandate to destroy the USD.
I hate to admit that this article is right (my opinion). We (the congressmen anyway) have run up such an insurmountable debt that we have no way out of this mess other than a long hard slug of business stagnation and personal failures. Real Estate foreclosures will continue despite the announcement of 'the recession is over' by Bernanke, Obama and Co., and others.
There are still many rumors floating around that GLD doesn't own all the gold that it claims. They hold the paper shares waiting on a dip in prices to buy the physical metal. The SEC needs to investigate this and get to the matter quickly.
Get Ready for $35 Billion More in Handouts [View article]
My answer to Trader Mark, et al is..... 1) My Bible says that God commands us to help the poor and needy, yes even with an occasional freebie handout when they don't even deserve it. We have no choice in the matter.
2) Being a renter isn't such a bad thing. I sold my house in the Chicago burbs at the very peak of the housing craze and haven't bothered to dump 100K's into another one (yet, I'm still waiting on a market bottom). It was one of the best financial moves I ever made and I have "no worries".
The Poverty Rate Is Vastly Understated [View article]
Nice article, TraderMark.
Now if we all gave a little of our income to help (as in a LifeLine, local food pantry, local family support program, etc), we could help chip away at poverty in America...... but who can do that when we are all occupied with building our McMansions?
There are plenty of timber mills in the South and Southeast and throw away a lot of tree limbs, tree bark, etc. Why can't we just have a series of wood burning furnaces to burn all this bio-waste and generate power? It may not be the latest high tech but we know it works. It would help to have 100% tax-writeoffs for the R&D and setup.
The Face of Employment: Permanently Changed? [View article]
We could get out of all this by using what used to work - bankruptcy court and tax cuts to free up cash combined with a strong dollar policy. This would be painful and currently is the most unpopular of statements and no politician would propose these ideas today.
I agree with pigdog67 that the boomers are a bad lot (sorry to all Boomers). I've watched them all my life and, for the most part, they are a self-loving, drug-induced bunch of spoiled brats.
Hopefully we can turn this thing around in 10-12 years.
State and Local Governments Increase Jobs: Even the Experts Are Shocked [View article]
This is all part of the Democratic plan to move increasing amounts of wealth and power to the government. They need to keep all the workers poor and under their control.
