  • Netflix, LG Reveal Streaming Capable Blu-Ray DVD Player  [View article]
I own one. I'm really happy with it. I'd just bought a blue-ray player (Sharp) and saw an ad for this, the next day... returned it and got this one. I just mention that because it gave me an opportunity for comparison of two blue-ray players. The other was a Sharp, close out model. The LG is far superior in load time and image quality (same for blue-ray but the LG is much better with standard DVDs). I owned a stand-alone Roku before this (which I now use on another TV).
    What's the down-side?
    1) I didn't notice that THIS ISN"T WIRELESS!!! I had to move my router so I could plug in (you can also buy a wireless thing anywhere they sell routers and such). Why? Even my Wii is wireless! The $99 Roku is wireless.
    2) To use BD-Live (DVD internet stuff) you will need to plug in a thumb drive so it has memory to work with. It has a USB port in the front to make it easy to look at vacation pics. I haven't seen any BD-Live content worth looking at... yet! I'm hoping they will start using it for movie previews and other short-format stuff. Typical content now is an un-fun trivia game.
Given that you know that (especially #1), the price is right (should find for < $299) and it's nice having one less wired hookup taken for NetFlix instant watch.
This isn't about the DVD player but, I love the instant watch. Sure the quality is sub DVD quality but great selection -- TV shows and such where quality isn't as noticeable. I just saw a great hour-long doc on movie editing... I wouldn't have put that in my 'mail-to-my-house' queue. We can sit down when we have time and watch an episode of 30 Rock or some other show. It is really amazing.
