  • Destiny Media's Problem Child [View article]
Keubs, i will give you credit as being someone who knows more about video formatting than me, so im curious. Is the type of embedded video ad that DSNY put out for themselves not a desirable or marketable product? I am sure you have seen the ad they out out on streamingmedia and webdeveloper, etc.

I can buy that the quality of full videos today is not good enough for mainstream and although i own shares i think the company took the wrong approach and got greedy by trying to become a 'youtube for business'. But here id what the company CAN be - a niche player in market research (arguably they already are), provide an ad format that is feature rich and highly cross format (clickable objects embedded in video, etc) where resource hog is less of an issue, they can and should be able to offer a video alternative of playMPE (maybe not enough credit given for the affiliations they have with what are enormous companies in universal, sony, etc), and last but not least can you tell me why an audio equivalent of clipstream with security, bandwidth savings, etc would not be a usable product for radio? Management has talked about this in the recent past and IMO has really flown under the radar. They have the relationships with stations to win this kind of business.

So i dont know whos thesis is right or wrong and i cant say that any of the above warrants this valuation - but i will day there are more possible verticals here than what is outlined. 'Youtube for business' could crash and burn and it may not matter. Open to constructive thoughts..

I will allow VI the response he deserves, but having profited from his IMOS call I can assure you it was not a bust. Also, some of the stocks you mention were recommended less than a month or two ago - not long enough for an investment thesis to unfold.

Perhaps your investing horizon is too short or perhaps this is your first post and you are just bashing senselessly.

Is there anything that can learned from how a pick like ISIS acted today? Down on a big earnings beat (by this criteria anyways). Cant win them all of course but may as well try.

Next earnings season im in on this.. Can't come soon enough.

I dipped my toe in the ocean man strategy today and bought a tiny position in ARSD. They reported after close but the market current on SA published this morning.

It closed yesterday at 9.10, i put my bid at the open for 9.25 and got filled at 9.15. I sold at 9.70 for a 5.7% gain. It actually closed up only 2 cents on the day so i can see how the stops are key.

So ocean, was ARSD a play true to your strategy or was it beginners luck?

  • Fraud Or No Fraud, NQ Mobile Is A Gamble [View article]
Fake. Not the first or last time a company has fabricated downloads and reviews for their app in Play. Look up the app for 'mimvi', it got to 50k downloads in a flash, they put out a PR to pump the stock price and basically zero downloads since.

This is the same thing on a larger scale by a company with 'deeper pockets' (ironic statement given the allegations but you get the point).

20m is massive relative to their stated cost per new location, especially considering their cash situation seems sufficient for their projected growth rate (2 restaurants in 2013). Do you have any reason to think they will accelerate growth?

I understand slow and steady and even quality control but this strikes me as overly cautious. I want to eat before the food gets cold!

  • Mitek Systems Could Be Headed Much Higher This Year [View article]
Gaucho, this seems to be in Miteks radar. They are trying to partner with member banks to form a 'mobile alliance' that would prevent fraud and thusly increase deposit limits. Google "Mitek to Take Aim at Remote Deposit Dollar Limits" for an article covering this topic.

BOA reported this week that they are processing 100k mobile deposits PER DAY, with a mobile customer base growing by an average 10k users per day. This is really our first glimpse at transaction volume, which Mitek cant release due to confidentiality, and its impressive. Keep in mind BOA launched only 2 quarters ago.

US bank is also said to be launching photo bill pay in March. First Financial, a small bank relatively speaking with just over a billion in assets, released that they processed 12k photo deposits in their first 10 days following launch in late January. I think the combination of the above are factoring in the recent run up.

  • A Hoppin' Pick For 2013 [View article]
Re the leappad moat, i think its underrated. Its not helms deep, but the first mover advantage here is in the app ecosystem. Its not unlike apple a few years ago. A competitor, which really doesnt exist yet, would be challenged to overcome the money leappad owners have already sunk into multimedia.

If LF beats on guidance this quarter it will be on the back of its app sales which IMO are a key growth driver going forward.
