As a taxpayer helping to finance these efforts, I don't really care except that, either way, they should pay back the taxpayer loans and ask for no more hand-outs(even if they ask for more, such funding should be withheld). For myself, I like lower priced items and will continue to buy used cars that aren't as efficient but that get me from A to B. I'm probably like a lot of other 'Joe Average' taxpaying US citizens.

Maybe some basic marketing research 101 and surveying of average citizens should be done by US carmakers. I'd be more interested in the Indian Tata (or equal) but don't think it's in the cards. We probably need a Nationalized Motor Inc. run by the govt to make this kind of vehicle but that would require some talent in the govt sector to make it happen and that, we all know, will never happen. A real Catch 22..... ]]>

Derivatives and other high risk items should come with large loss possibilities to balance their risk (like the rest of us). Stateside banks took the risk in these endeavors, capitalized with high returns when things were good but then showed their lack of any real talent, by getting their asses in a bind when the 'goin got tuff'. Why our govt even stepped in to save the talentless, is embarrassing to an average citizen like myself. If the mob were involved, they'd be facing RICO sentencing for fraud and mismanagement or worse. Us taxpayers saved them. On the other hand, I guess we have created a new 'white collar mob', now can't we. Let's have RICO get involved with their due process in the future.]]>

We still lead the world in producing financial derivatives, pro football stars, making good movies and TV sitcoms, great weapons for Defense and other equally important things. But, other than those few leadership items, we fall woefully short. We need to get back into some form of manufacturing role in the world, and, instead of saying we're in the post industrial state, we need to start thinking of how to get out of it. When the dollar tanks, those $ 15 shoes from Walmart are going to $ 20-25, because China will have to play the game and revalue regardless of their dollar reserve position. We've become second rate and the world is beginning to smell it. What's the plan to get back into manufacturing aside from military goods? It'll take more than PV panels - China's already moved into a better position than the USA and Germany on that note and they started late. We need more politicians with a technical and management talent than the rhetoric repeaters we have now.
