  • Starwood Property Trust: Using Equity Issuance To Build Shareholder Wealth [View article]
STWD is not in residential mortgages. They're in CMBS. Commercial is the best place to be because there's no prepay risk, duration is short, and when LIBOR goes up STWD makes more money. Sternlicht is the smartest player in this space. His track record is astounding to say the least.

  • Alibaba May Keep Falling, But Its Stock Is Too Good To Pass Up [View article]
Yes. You trust the Chinese because the alternative is global economic apocalypse, and there is no way to shelter from it.

Chindia will be the largest growth engine in the world for decades to come because you can't fight population and demographics.

The rest of the world thought we could contain them with energy and ag imports. We were wrong. They can manufacture weaknesses in their economy a litttle to lower import inflation because the markets are full of scared minnows who fall pray to fear.

  • 30% Underpriced? How Is The Market So Wrong About ChipMOS? [View article]
IMOS is a great buy. Q3 will be slow but that's more than factored in. Management is starting to listen to investors and is buying back shares.

LCD driver business growing. Industry shrinking. Strong relationships with Micron. Fear of competition from China over done.

Technically speaking, IMOS goes up when markets go down. Just take a look at its performance in the past few weeks.

    Long IMOS.

  • Alibaba unveils Netflix-like Chinese service priced at $57/year [View news story]
BABA is going through management consolidation after a year of rapid growth. This is very healthy, and is the right thing to do for a newly public company.

With 35,000 employees, and capped headcount for now, they're avoiding disasters down the road like JD where growth at any cost is the game. JD has 68,000 employees and still loses money!

BABA is internally balancing Hanzhou vs. Beijing. Their corporate culture is better than here in the US. Employees are dedicated, unlike Silicon Valley employees who leave and do their own startups.

Silicon Valley startups are domestic plays, and have little game outside of the US. BABA and SFTBY are INVESTING all over Asia and are GROWING. BABA can do it because of the strength of China's international power behind them. I just don't see that opportunity with any other country.

Best managed mREIT in the business with consistent results. Surprised it hasn't traded well recently, but hopefully interest picks up.

  • PDC Energy: More Resilient Than Exxon, And For A Good Reason [View article]
    Hi Richard,

No one seems to be concerned about breakdown in NGL pricing? PDCE has lots of NGL, and Utics isn't going to contribute for at least the next two years?

Inner core is gassy with NGL. Middle and outer core are oily.

I think the focus should be on NGL, wellhead vs takeaway pricing, and the breakdown in products like propane vs ethene.

  • China's Currency Devaluation Will Cause Serious Pain [View article]
China has already lower their US bonds purchases. Plenty of ways to invest - buying equity, foreign investments with ASEAN partners, Russia, MENA, Latam...

I just don't see the big hoopla on a 2% deval. Versus Japan and Germany? It's a joke.

For years pundits wanted a market Yuan. Now that we're getting closer, pundits bitch about it. so typical.

  • China's Currency Devaluation Will Cause Serious Pain [View article]
Stop looking at foreign markets or countries through the myopic lens of an American. This has been out mistake for centuries.

China will be fine. China is transitioning from pure manufacturing to a diversified economy. Just because American companies aren't successful in China and India, it doesn't mean the sky is falling there.

If China wanted to, they can dump all their US bonds, and it will be game over.

US Media are full of sinophobes who are clueless.

  • Alibaba To Expand Into India's Rapidly Growing E-Commerce Market [View article]
Love BABA and SFTBY investing in India. What an opportunity!

Meanwhile, Silicon Valley idiots are myopic with their pet projects and not growing abroad.

  • Alibaba: Bringing Sexy Back To Offline Retail [View article]
Anyone who has bought in China will know that there's no after sale service like in the U.S. That said, I hope BABA never goes that far. Try floor model, exchange/service is fine, but do not go the way of refunds for no good reason - liberal return policies in the US doomed retailers here long ago.

BABA shouldn't expand to the US, stick with growth markets like China and India. Here in the U.S., we're Sinophobes. We have a history of blaming foreigners for our own problems.

  • Memorial Production Partners: Where Does It Go After Distribution Cut, Recent Share Price Drop? [View article]
Sure the past two quarters were not smooth, but a cut in divvy doesn't mean the money isn't there. They were slightly blow 1x coverage pre-cut, and now post-cut they're projecting 1.3x coverage for next year.

I think they got the message on the call yesterday - CUT CUT CUT service and G&A costs!
