The Losses of a Money Magazine Portfolio [View article]
I had to search your article, then infer that the initial investment is 100K. Using a percentage, or giving us the original amount would have clarified things.
That said, I think your point is important, unfortunately, our culture has become so "professionalized" that we want to be able to "hire" someone to do everything for us.
I began managing my own money back in 1999 after being burned by a "professional"........... lost money, but gained an education in 2000-03.
Managing my own money, I am ahead this year so far.......barely, but that's better than friends who have lost 40% of their life savings so far.
Perhaps this catastrophic economic collapse will return us to ideal of individual responsibility and integrity. If so, it will have been worth the price.

"Hysterical and overextended Bear case", "Sheer psychological exhaustion"..........o... WOW, that's a much better technical explanation for a huge rally than some weirdo conspiracy theory like.......uh............ intervention !
NOT ! what a lame "analysis"........you could have a job on CNBC !

Last Thursday Was the Bottom - It's Time to Get Back in [View article]
Another bottom picker with smelly hands.
If the author's ultimate definition of a bottom sign were true -- i.e., the market's discounting of bad news -- the bottom would have come earlier this year, as the market consistently discounted all the bad numbers.
In the last market crash, the bottom didn't come until more than two years after the March 2000 crash.
This one is much worse, as it affects not just a market sector, but the whole financial system.
As others have said, the bottom will come when all are looking only for respite from the anguish.
