I live outside Austin and the houses listed May and later haven't traded. Most of the "For Sale" signs are coming down now. Builders are still going like crazy but it looks like existing homes are suffering first.

I see the "mindless masses" driving everyday (if you can call it that). I would trust a computer controlled car before I trust any of those crazies that are around me right now.

I was thinking the same as AustinBill, my family cut the cord several years ago and when I see what is on when I go to friends or stay in hotels I'm STUNNED that people still pay to get that lack of quality pumped into their homes.

Credit checks on potential hires is a perfectly acceptable practice. If you can't manage your own finances why on earth would we want you "managing" ours?

  • Amazon buying Twitch for $970M in cash  [View news story]
Hey Charles you should watch these "kids" playing. By and large they're brilliant and very hard working. There are bad examples of course (just like there are in all sports) but they are generally great role models for the kids of this generation. Not all kids need to get outside and throw a ball to develop eye/hand coordination to fulfill some unwritten rule of childhood.

So their earnings beat is attributable to an extra month of Coventry contribution, their margins decreased by 9.5% Y-o-Y and their effective tax rate went from 37% to 41% because of Obamacare. Am I missing anything else important?

  • Goldman's Cohn: "Abnormal" lack of action in markets  [View news story]
In my mind your logic doesn't hold. If GS had a way to make 2%/month in a sideways market selling options (just as a "for instance", there's lots of ways to make money in a range bound market) you're telling me they couldn't talk their clients into trading that way and generating revenues from it? If I was a GS client I would jump at the chance to generate alpha based on what their prop guys were doing.

  • Goldman's Cohn: "Abnormal" lack of action in markets  [View news story]
I'm stunned there isn't even one post on this! GS can make money on a sideways market as easily as they can on a volatile one if they chose, except they misjudged the situation.
