AARC...First, UAW will take over GM health care in 2010...our government should help fund this !we need to take care of the American workers! we love to talk about Canada's medical horror stories...what about the 42 million American that don't have health insurance?

second, UAW is sharing the pain...new hires @ $14.50hr, no wage increase for the duration of our contract, our sub pay drastic reduced, we pay our doctor's visit, reduced holiday pays...etc.

third. the 3 million jobs lost won't be in the auto industry only...those 1.2 million retirees won't be spending money that they don't have...the small business will loose more then the auto industry!

Petek...you've never worked on the assembly line...so...when you make a statement that UNITED AUTO WORKERS.are over payed ,you do it out of ignorance or envy! and if you think that by loosing 3 millions jobs will save this country you're not too bright!...a good percentage of sales that GM is loosing right now is due to the bankruptcy chatter going around...if you don't believe that you're not too bright!...If you think that letting the Chinese take over the automobile marked is good for America and the American workers ...you're not too bright!
We're spending $800 billion to create 3 million jobs...if you think that spending $30 billions to save 3 million jobs...you're not too bright!

Sootpar2001...it no one's job to worry about out tax base...how ever with out a tax base there will be no USA!

the manufacturing jobs left in this country are low wages and little benefits...thats not going to get us out of this mess...survival wages for a family of 4 in this country is$18hr how many manufacturing jobs pay above that?

As for the tax base ...I don't know where you get your facts ...but I can tell you that from east coast to west...from north to south cities and states are going bankrupt because they don't have the tax base that they used to!

Corporate America has shipped our good paying jobs over seas and forced those left to take a pay cut to compete with the likes of China...

The problems are....lower wages...run away health care...the bleeding of our manufacturing job....gouging by the oil and natural gas companies...the American workers being undercut by foreign competition...self destruction at its best!!!!!!

The republicans have had the White House 20 0f the last 28 years...they have helped wall street fat cats fatten their wallet at the expenses of the working stiff of this country...They have sold our jobs to the lowest bidder over seas and here in the states...our local governments are broke because they've destroyed our tax base by shipping our jobs over seas and lowering our wages!
