  • Amazon Sees Its Biggest Holiday Season Ever While Apple, Dell, And J.C. Penney Decline  [View article]
Like most of the comments regarding the lack of relevance regarding the content of this article and a misleading title, this does much to diminish the credibility of SA. Whatever was the "editor" who approved this thinking?

  • This Could Be Why Apple Shares Are Down  [View article]
Assuming I'm not unique, what impact do you think the following scenario would have....500 shares of AAPL in a taxable account and 500 shares of AAPL in an IRA with enough cash or ability to sell some other stocks in the IRA in order to sell the 500 in the taxable account [with a profit at 15% CG] and replace that day with buying 500 shares back via the IRA account with tax deferral until sold.

  • How Apple's Current Price Is Justified  [View article]
So, does your scenario assume Apple simply takes its foot off the gas and coasts during the next several years? Relying on either manipulating product prices to increase market share, maintaining current premium pricing to maintain margins, and counting on product upgrades? Just curious what assumptions come with your thesis.

  • Apple (AAPL) used legal loopholes and its Irish subsidiary to pay just $713M in overseas corporate tax in the year to Sep 30, or a mere 1.9% of its foreign profits of $36.8B, an analysis from the U.K.'s Sunday Times shows. The tax rate is down from 2.5% last year and well below the company tax rates of 35% in the U.S. and 24% in the U.K. In Britain, Apple is estimated to have avoided taxes of over $550M in 2011.  [View news story]
That speaks volumes for the need corporate tax reform in the U.S. Apple is the rule not the exception for U.S. corporations.

I've heard it said: "happiness is directly proportional to expectations"-forgetting analyst expectations, the lower the expectation the greater the potential for happiness.

  • What's All The Hubbub About Over The iPad Mini Pricing?  [View article]
The author makes some very relevant points. I would have to confess I have had similar "initial concerns" when Apple announced prior products and later appreciated the wisdom in their strategies reflected in the stock rising after an initial drop.

  • The iPad Mini (AAPL) will be unveiled at an Oct. 23 event, claims AllThingsD's John Paczkowski, who previously reported an October launch would happen. A rumor about press invitations arriving on Oct. 10 didn't pan out. Manufacturing yield issues have reportedly delayed the Mini's release.  [View news story]
In my humble opinion...It's imperative the new iPad mini have an app or feature that separates itself from it's competitors other than the Apple brand name. My guess is it will and that feature / app will be related to iTV or, in other words, a remote making all other remotes obsolete.

Being an investor might be a better bet with AAPL than being a trader. I sleep better as an investor.

  • Samsung (SSNLF.PK), unsurprisingly, plans to appeal its harsh legal loss to Apple (AAPL). Apple's response to the jury's verdict: "We applaud the court for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right." Samsung's response: "It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies." Seems like the cliche "what a tangled web we [Samsung] weave when first we practice to deceive" would best describe the hole Samsung has dug for itself.

  • 6 Reasons iPhone Will Surprise Analysts  [View article]
Kudos for the article and the points made. Once again, I am reminded of the need to delineate myself as an investor in Apple, here for the long run as opposed to a trader. If I were buying and selling AAPL on a frequent basis, I too would be reacting to every rumor, nuance, and opinion appearing on this and any other forum. Suffice it to say the view from 30,000 feet is a lclearer than in the middle of the forest looking at every other tree.
