  • How Microsoft's Windows 7 Is Impacting Corporate Computer Market [View article]
I have a MAc and a PC. I upgraded to Windows 7 (bought a Vista machine and got a free W& upgrade). It's actually excellent. I don't think that the Mac is really any better than my new PC. It also seems more robust.

  • Exxon May Be Wrong… [View article]
    To "be careful:"
I would sell half, so that your cost is essentially zero (from the base on which you report a 100% rise in your stock value). I don't know what to do with the proceeds, but sort of like the pipeline area, if you want to stay in the O&G zone.

  • Government Action: Mission Not Accomplished [View article]
Actually, I think that we have had bad governance x 30 yrs at the federal level. The most recent example is the current health care reform bill. Where is the open debate? What are its goals? Does anyone really believe that covering how many millions of people will be free? If the cover-the-uninsured was the goal, why is the bill 2,000 pages long, and why were so many bribes to senators paid out ?
I'm certain that the same thing happens in economic bils, as well as in daily financial governance. The accounting that the federal governament does is fraudulent, and it's shameful that they get away with it, without hardly any debate.

  • Book Reviews: 'Fire Your Stock Analyst' and 'Far from Random' [View article]
Along a similar vein, why not just skip the book on TA and go to Vectrovex or Gorrilla Trade or some channeling TA type service? You then get advice on both when to get into a trade, as well as when to get out.

  • Considering Canadian ETFs [View article]
Hard to know which way the Canadian economy will go, but it is basically completely tied to the US, so where the US goes, Canada will follow. The demographics for both countries actually look bad; maybe the emerging markets (younger populations) is the place to be.

Okay--I read this and Mauldin's articles. Where does one invest currently to avoid getting beaten up? Commodity based companies? Big cap growth? Any suggestions?

  • Gross vs. Geithner on the U.S. Credit Rating [View article]
Well, why is Mr. Gross still buying US treasuries if this is his thesis. In fact, I think that he;s right and will be buying commodity type assets and foreign (eg Asian) stocks in the future.

  • Big Pharma Maintains Illusion of Innovation [View article]
    A couple of points:
1.) You can believe the data from clinical trials. It is IRB (Institutional/Indepen... Review Boards) approved and CRO (Contract Research Organizations) monitored, not massaged by the company. It may not be published or promoted if it is "negative" (ie doesn't support the new medication/dose/schedule of treatment used), but publishing a negative trial is often made difficult by medical journal editorial policy as much as the lack of the pharma enthusiasm in trying to publish negative data.
2.) Of course the pharma companies are going to market themselves in a good light--why would they hire anyone to do the opposite. What's wrong with marketing?
3.) Drugs are more expensive here--well, wrong again; yes they seem insanely expensive, but in fact per unit of GDP or individual purchasing power they cost about the same here as in Romania or the Congo etc). In countries where they are subsidized (eg Canada) the cost is just hidden by income taxes.

Just an aside; it is very hard to do clinical research in the US, and hugely expensive as well.

  • Chrysler's Creditors Say No to Obama - Were They Right? [View article]
Sell Jeep, the minivan concern, and maybe trucks, and junk the rest. That should pay off the debtors, and cut the massive excess capacity in car production that we have in NA. And stop spending my taxes on wasteful investments.

  • Fascinating Showdown Ahead for U.S., Chrysler and Fiat [View article]
Sort of irritating isn't it that the government is backing one party in this one. I think that if this is a union owned company, no-one will buy their products and they will simply fail again. I would prefer that the government not squander my taxes such.

  • Economic Fault Lines Emerge [View article]
Actually, who has much confidence in any government these days. Both Dems and Repl's have mismanaged the economy for the past 20 years; they should have had more economic discipline and addressed the future (and not very distant) unfunded liabilities such as SS, Medicare, private pensions. It is difficult to believe that they will change their stripes now.
