I am retired and manage my own portfolio. During my working career I was the Logistics/Materials Manager at a Manufacturing Plant. The plant was part of a larger Corporation servicing the Automotive/Heavy Duty and Industrial markets both domestic and International.

As an SA Contributor I write about dividend investing general principles and strategies. I'll also write about concepts that apply across the investment spectrum but my focus is generally directed to dividend paying companies.
I tend to be conservative in investing approach. I invest and trade so as to increase my "discretionary" income. I live off my retirement pension and want to increase my account to provide additional income in future years. I'm 62 but haven't made a determination as to when I'll start using the additional income, preferring to remain flexible.
As a side note the profile picture is not me, it's my great grand-dad who was born in 1833, fought in the Civil War, fathered 11 children (the last one born when he was 67), worked hard as a farmer to take care of them, and died in 1910. I use it as inspiration to remind myself not to get lazy. I am fortunate to have been raised by great parents who set a great example for work ethic and taught me that we can accomplish much if we're willing to apply ourselves. That's why I invest my own money rather than depending on someone else.

I retired as CEO of an Automotive Parts supplier, and manage an investment portfolio for myself and family. I have a BA in History from Royal Military College of Canada and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. My first career was as a fighter pilot in the RCAF, and, following my MBA I joined McKinsey & Company, Inc. leaving them for Canadian GE. I left CGE as a Vice President in 1984 and founded The Enfield Corporation Limited ("Enfield") which grew from 243 employees in 1984 to over 10,000 in 1989 when Enfield was taken over and I was replaced as CEO. In 1989, I acquired control of Algonquin Mercantile Corporation, renamed Automodular Corporation in the late 1990's when I turned it to focus exclusively on automotive parts sub-assembly. Along the way, Algonquin turned a few ageing drug stores into Pharmx Rexall Drug Stores Ltd., sold to Katz group in 1997 and today a major Canadian drug store chain. I have been a private investor since 1971 both directly and through a private company controlled by myself and members of my family.

Steven Bavaria writes about finance, economics and politics, drawing on his forty-five years experience in international banking, credit, investment, human resources/training, journalism and public service. Now retired from his "day job" on Wall Street, Bavaria lives mostly off his investments. His focus is largely on income-oriented stocks, bonds and mutual funds, as well as closed-end funds, ETFs and other IRA-suitable investments. His book "Too Greedy for Adam Smith: CEO Pay and the Demise of Capitalism" was just published and is available on Amazon and at independent retailers.
Bavaria began his career at the Bank of Boston, where he handled international credit workouts that included managing a fleet of ships, chasing a Vatican-owned bank in Switzerland, and leading the turnaround of troubled branches in Australia and Panama. He also ran the bank's human resources department, which is where he saw personally the beginnings of many of today's executive compensation excesses.
More recently he worked at Standard & Poor's, where he introduced ratings to the leveraged loan market. In between Bank of Boston and S&P he was Assoc. Commissioner of the Massachusetts Dept. of Mental Health, worked briefly for Citibank, and was a reporter for IDD Magazine. He also did a short stint at a smaller rating agency where he had to leave in a hurry after writing an article called "From Banker to Bookmaker" that was deemed a bit too candid in describing the conflicted role of major commercial and investment banks.
Bavaria graduated from Georgetown University and New England School of Law.
