Putting the UAW and the Big Three on Welfare would do nothing to help "joe sixpack" or anybody else, except a few insiders.
The bottom line is that the UAW was allowed to operate as a protection racket/labor cartel for decades, and they finally killed the goose which laid the golden eggs. They demand payment for services which exceeded the value of those services, and used force to prevent the thousands who would have happily done their jobs at reasonable rates unemployed, and themselves living high on the hog.
Putting them on the handout train now would merely allow them to victimize those of us whose pay is related to our productivity further, and make America poorer.
