On October 31st, 2014, I retired. Turned in the keys to the company car, gave them my computer and my account lists and joined the ranks of those who "slipped off into the sunset." I never thought in retirement that I would be this busy. It's fun. Time with the grandkids, time to perfect my cooking skills, and time to travel and check off the things on my bucket list. I should have done this a long time ago.

My wife and I are now retired. We live off SS and the income from our portfolio. My investments are all income producers and include dividend growth stocks like T and MO, some higher yielding low growth issues like PNNT. and others in between. About 25% of my income comes from fixed income preferred issues. When I was younger I was more into growth, but my goal was to switch to income and live off that. So that is what I have achieved today. I also work as a tax preparer for the 4 months of tax season.

Diversifying into non-correlating sectors, such as infrastrcuture, metal, REITS, healthcare, tech etc. Carefully balancing the portfolio to minimize market risk.

I've been investing for the past 6 years, I believe strongly in continued homework and consistent strategy assessment. As a home gamer I like to think I'm persistent, observant, and an opportunist. I'm completely infatuated with the market and this type of love/hate relationship keeps me going everyday.
I have never been prosecuted on any securities-related issue, been barred from the securities industry, or convicted of a felony.

Hi, I'm Sarfaraz A. Khan. I have got an MBA from University of Aberdeen, located in the heart of UK's oil industry. My specialties lie in energy and materials stocks, but I occasionally cover services sector, emerging markets and ETFs. My work appears mainly on TheStreet and Seeking Alpha.
I am not based in the US, which is why I do not have any position in the US listed stocks that I write about. I do, however, own shares of funds that usually hold a long position in either Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, Schlumberger, Halliburton, ConocoPhillips, Honda Motor Company, GlaxoSmithKline, Unilever, or their subsidiaries that trade on non-US markets.
My goal is to bring exposure to business development companies (BDCs) that finance small to medium sized businesses, typically overlooked by banks. BDCs are an instrument for investors to earn healthy dividends by avoiding double taxation at the corporate level and allowing income to flow directly to each shareholder. I intend to publicize my research of companies here at Seeking Alpha whenever such research digs deep enough. I would only research a company thoroughly if I'm personally interested in investing in it or shorting its stock.
