  • It Really Is Better to Give Than to Get (for Governments Too) [View article]
Interesting points. I will probably have to re-read it a few times to fully grasp it. Especially interesting idea would be the subsidy "exchange" allowing people to sell vouchers to obtain goods most important to them. On the downside could a system like this end up similar to Russia's privatization vouchers in the early 90's? This system could potentially result in an even higher concentration of wealth (subsidy) among the wealthy who may not make decisions to maximize the wealth of the country but rather themselves. When government doles out the subsidies they are theoretically making decisions to help maximize the wealth of the country (or more likely scratching the back of a campaign contributor). Could the free market voucher system do a better job? It would seem like it's worth a try since current policy has many flaws.

  • Detroit: Please Bring Back the Stripped Car [View article]
Every single quote bashing this article has said that individual consumers would not want to purchase a "stripped" car. I do believe his main point is these cars would be sold for use as fleet cars, taxis and rental cars by selling to these institutions automakers could generate SOME revenue and put the 10s of thousands of employees sitting on the sidelines back to work. Not to mention most of these union employees are getting at least partial paychecks to sit around.
