You should have titled the article “I Hope China Withholds Regulatory Approval" . Same result you desire and a lot more views. As for me , way too much noise. As for the deal : Git `er done!

  • Nokia / Microsoft Deal Runs Into Regulatory Roadblocks [View article]
I think you are right on point. One of the positive arguments for this deal is the freeing up of the patent portfolio once Nokia is no longer a cell phone OEM. It is one of the key rationales for holding for more than the short term. Any threat to this leverage for future revenues certainly must be factored in by the investor. As an aside, this also must be considered by those who are thinking Nokia will re-enter the phone business in the future. (As a double aside, perhaps Nokia internally is having that same debate; just a thought, probably a bad one:) ) ...There are other potential positives ( NSN, HERE, innovation) for me to want to hold Nokia but I find the focus of this article helpful in defining this issue.
P.S. Personally the hardest part of the long hold scenario is not company specific but that it will get overwhelmed by a macro event before it has time to reap the rewards of it's new income strategies.

  • Nokia X's 10 Million Pre-Orders Means Nokia Doesn't Need Microsoft [View article]
Advocating Nokia getting back into phone business negates the case for increased leveraging of patent/licensing portfolio once they no longer had cross deals.

http://bit.ly/1iEKfpX This is an interview with M. Son of SoftBank and Sprint regarding potential merger with T-Mobile (which would certainly be to NSN benefit based on existing relationships).
“ Similarly both are improving their networks but neither is making the kind of massive investment Son is suggesting he will make if a deal between the two companies is allowed."

  • Is Newmont Mining Still A Safe Place For Investors? [View article]
The opinions of these banks, among the fixers of the gold fix, are the last place I will base my buying / selling decision . They are worried about a lack of buyers? Is that a global bankers view or just a wild western one. For as the price dropped through the year there were no shortage of eager buyers to the East as can be seen here. Maybe Merrill should hang a copy on their wall... http://bit.ly/1ndawBZ

  • Nokia Sends A Message To Microsoft [View article]
http://nokia.ly/1fHijCB “Many partners such as Facebook, BBM, Twitter, LINE, Viber, Electronic Arts, Gameloft and Rovio are also making their key apps available across Nokia's device portfolio of feature phones, Asha, Nokia X and Lumia. Facebook Messenger, a fast, free and reliable way to stay in touch, will also be coming soon across Nokia's four tiers of products. Global food delivery app, Foodpanda/hellofood, will also launch across the Nokia Asha, Lumia and X family of devices."...I think consumers will be able to transition from forked Android to WP as long as major apps are available cross platform and who is to say that WP won't become more flexible in their higher end lines in emerging markets. Gaining access to new users is crucial and restricting this is biting your nose to spite your face. As Ben Bajaran says getting the Microsoft ID exposure is the key

One more obvious risk for a company in this field; mission failure, something an investor must always contemplate. But they have been on quite a run. As a long time holder I view this as an amazing turn of events because I remember past horrifying financial/operational results. Their persistence might be their strongest attribute.

Ouch. It's ugly when basically the only thing supporting a move up is the engineering of a stock buy back.
