Institutional investment manager authoring on a variety of topics that pique my interest, and could further discourse in this online community. I hold an MBA from the University of Chicago, and have earned the CFA designation.
My articles may contain statements and projections that are forward-looking in nature, and therefore inherently subject to numerous risks, uncertainties and assumptions. While my articles focus on generating long-term risk-adjusted returns, investment decisions necessarily involve the risk of loss of principal. Individual investor circumstances vary significantly, and information gleaned from my articles should be applied to your own unique investment situation, objectives, risk tolerance, and investment horizon.
I have been researching and investing in stocks and options in my own accounts since 2006. I finished my MBA in 2007 and then worked as the Finance Manager at a start up for 7 years. I'm currently self-employed as an online marketing consultant, but investing is my true passion.
I've found that my skill lies in taking the time to read 10-K and 10-Q reports carefully and being able to then create realistic future projections. As a value investor I tend to look at cash flow as much as if not more than earnings and revenues.
My investment horizon is typically at least 5-10 years, and ideally I place my money into investments which I could see myself holding through retirement. That said, I do also enjoy allocating a small portion of my account to short term options plays.
In our free time, my wife and I love to travel the world. We've each been to over 45 countries and relish the opportunity to see how people live all around the world.

Peter Way Associates is the only known provider of the price range forecasts of widely-held, actively traded stocks derived from the hedging activities of market-making [MM] firms as they balance big-$-fund sellers and buyers in large block trades. The price ranges offer explicit downside exposure forecasts not commonly found in publicly published investment analyses.
This is all forward-looking data, based on what the MMs will pay for protection against coming unwanted price change while temporarily committed firm capital is exposed to market risks. It is available by modest subscription cost at blockdesk.com.
The behavioral analysis involved has been performed daily since Y2K, now on over 3,000 stocks, ETFs, and market indexes. That has built an actuarial history of how market prices have subsequently behaved following several million price range forecasts, issue by issue.
That data provides a qualitative backdrop to current forecasts in terms of odds of profitable positions, size of prospective gains, credibility of forecasts, and worst-case price drawdown exposure experiences.

720 Global is an investment consultant, specializing in macroeconomic research, valuations, asset allocation, and risk management. Our objective is to provide professional investment managers with unique and relevant information that can be incorporated into their investment process to enhance performance and marketing. We assist our clients in differentiating themselves from the crowd with a focus on value, performance and a clear, lucid assessment of global market and economic dynamics.
Our mission is to help investors create reliable investment income regardless of market conditions.
Our method for creating income involves selling option contracts which allow investors to collect instant payments in their brokerage accounts.
When used properly, this method allows investors to generate strong investment returns while taking on less risk than traditional investment strategies of buying and holding shares of stock.
We have spent more than 15 years of experience as a hedge fund manager, using our income strategy to generate reliable returns for high net worth clients. We also have 8 years of experience managing content for a financial publishing group, focusing on income-generating strategies that can be used by individuals in their retirement or taxable brokerage accounts.
Managing risk is a top priority for us, as income simply cannot be generated if investors loose a substantial portion of their account value. Our thorough research ensures that we are investing in high-quality stocks with solid fundamentals, and our tactical strategy of selling option contracts gives us a risk buffer so that we can generate income even if our stock selections do not move in our favor.
I'm a retired electrical engineer and adjunct professor of math and engineering. I am also working on an engineering book.
I have been investing for over 30 years, starting off with stock index funds, bond funds, and stable value funds and later migrating in part to dividend paying stalwarts as retirement approached. I typically use a "buy and hold" strategy with an eye on the long-term.
I am a member of the "Apple cult" so until it is proven otherwise that Apple is not a great company that develops and sells great products that people love I will continue to buy their products and own their stock.

As a chemist and part-time investor, I focus on technology and natural-resource related businesses and macroeconomic events that influence their prices. I use past trends and technological developments to make decisions on companies that I would invest in. My point of view as a chemist occasionally allows a deeper look at some of the fundamentals of some companies that base their technology on chemical principles.

In addition to technology, I am interested in dividend growth and income investing.
I make references to music I'm obsessed with (e.g., Old 97s, Elliott Smith, Bruce Springsteen) in my writing. If you notice any of these references, it makes me happy.

Ever feel like trading is like rolling dice? In a way, it is, because every mathematical model of the market includes a stochastic aspect. But I believe we can load the dice in our favor through the use of statistics. Understanding both the stock market and each individual stock as a sort of random process with its own characteristics allows us to more accurately predict what it will do in the future. Coupling statistics with fundamental analysis, I have the goal of revealing to you the hidden patterns within stocks so that you may do what you wish with that information.

I was born and raised in Sandpoint, Idaho. I attended the University of Idaho where I earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 2004. After a few years in the work force as an account manager I moved to Vietnam where I lived for over 5 years.
While in Vietnam I taught English as a second language for 2 years to students of all ages and backgrounds. For the 3 final years that I lived there I opened and ran a sports training company called Saigon Sports Academy. We coached sports such as soccer, tennis, and basketball as well as ran large sporting events such as tournaments and leagues. My positions while at the company included Director of Strategic Initiatives as well as Director of the Chess Program.
While living in Vietnam I became fluent in the Vietnamese language and developed a deep love for teaching and traveling internationally. I then came back in the United States to work on a masters degree in business education so that I would be an even more effective teacher, investor, and businessman in the future.
It is my wish to be a positive force for business education in the world, and to inspire my current and future students and readers to be the best that they can be in whatever they do.
I have taken a large amount of coursework, both graduate and undergraduate, in economics, machine learning, mathematics, and statistics, culminating in a PhD in Statistics from Carnegie Mellon University.
Currently, I'm a statistics professor at a large, state university (I'll leave it up to you to sleuth it out if you are so inclined) and teach mainly statistical machine learning at mainly the graduate level. Additionally, I research macroeconomic forecasting and using automated algorithms to analyze very large data sets.
Outside of researching and teaching, I spend a substantial amount of time reading and thinking about investing, accounting, and finance and I thoroughly enjoy both writing and read articles here on SA.

I have been helping startups and investors understand the value of emergent business models in the technology, media, and telecommunications industries. In my own personal portfolio, I have been looking for income opportunities and companies with deep value and strong growth potential whose value propositions are misunderstood by the broader market. I do this by an in-depth study of the markets where these companies operate, marrying that to traditional securities analysis to uncover hidden value and under-appreciated growth.
Opportunities are always changing and I prefer to move along with them. I am constantly looking to spot areas of growth and value before the market does whether this is analyzing the latest news or tearing apart a 10-K.
As much as I would like to be spot on with every idea, I cannot guarantee that all of my ideas will beat the market. As always, remember to do your own due diligence before making any investment decisions.
I have more than 15 years experience in the financial world within the High tech industry. In the recent years I have made a change and acting as a business operations manager. It allows me to get new and different perspective on the business and operations.
