Looks like KMP may lose its #1 spot as the biggest MLP. Dan Duncan is planning to put together EPD and TPP, both of which he controls. Based on his success with Enterprise, which I own, it will expand the pipeline business of EPD, the survivor.
As you may guess, I am a fan of MLPs. They have treated me well the past several years.

U.S. MPLs are certainly not prohibited from acquiring assets, they do it on a regular basis, e.g. TC Pipelines originally owned 30% of Northern Border but has acquired Tuscarora Pipelines (now 100%), Great Lakes (46.5%) and another 20% of Northern Border. U.S Royalty trusts are the ones unable to add assets.

I like and own one of TransCanada's affiliates, TC Pipelines, an MLP controlled by them. TCLP owns 50% of Northern Border, about 36% of Great Lakes, (much of the rest owned by TRP) and 100% of Tuscarora, which gets its gas from Trans Canada. I also own Pembina and several other MLPs. They have treated me well over the years I have owned them and the K-1s are not a big deal at tax time.

I'm curious about the comment that PGH is building a pilot plant to use steam rather than NG to extract oil Query: How will they produce the steam? Burn coal, perhaps. Steam assisted gravity drainage is widely promoted for use with tar sands so the approach is hardly new. Probably only a few producers use natural gas to produce oil, carbon dioxide, yes but .......
