  • Where General Motors Is Thriving Right Now [View article]
Let's build an infrastructure in cities for electric cars and diesel-electric hybrids that get 80+ mpg before we go down the hydrogen path for which there is no infrastructure.

  • Why I'd Buy Toyota, The #1 Automaker in the U.S. [View article]
The author makes good points. I so wish they had of let GM die so innovative companies could replace it. Where is the innovative product from the car companies equivalent to the iPhone?
I also point out that there would be no internet if AT&T had not been broken up. What great innovation has been stopped due to this miscalculation? We will never know.

  • The Failure of General Motors Is a Failure of Government Policy [View article]
If all this is true, why isn't Ford bankrupt? Maybe the arguement can be made that that domino will fall soon, but it hasn't yet. Real problems:
    A) Little innovation (Where is the iPhone car equivalent?)
    B) Dealers treat customers horribly (Japanese don't)
    C) Poor quality
    D) Not even really trying to run a profitable business, entitlement mindset

Being debtors I'm not sure we have a choice in the matter. The Chinese can destroy the dollar at will.

  • Why Silicon Valley Should Take Over the Auto Industry [View article]
I designed a hybrid car 25 years ago and it was ridiculously simple. Hybrids should be LESS expensive not more. The reason they are more is because the car makers are trying to recoup some of their investment and utilize their expertise unnecessarily. The engine should not have a drive train. It should connect only to the generator and only operate in an on-off fashion. It should run at its peak SFC only, which only reacquires a ventury carburetor with no butterfly. When the battery is low it comes on. When charged it should be off. Simple and ridiculously cheap and ridiculously efficient. 100mpg no problem.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
GM has about as many foreign entanglements as AIG. Why does anyone think a bankruptcy can be handled quickly. I mean Obama is a lawyer, so he should at least understand that. I know if I was a bond holder in GM, I'd want acess to Opel money if that it what it took to get paid back.

  • Wall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [View article]
To place your future hope in a company that doesn't make money is insanity. I don't ever plan to see a dime from social security because the US gov't is insolvent, so why does anyone stake their future on GM which is more insolvent? My plan in enjoy life now. Have little to zero debt and plan to work forever. At the moment I've been doing what 60 Minutes pointed out last night, stockpiling guns and ammo as this is going to get ugly! Even more so that Leslie Stahl in bright lights.

  • Aid for Automakers? Why TARP Has No Teeth  [View article]
There are two problems with your approaches. First the US government is not qualified to run a successful business. The second is the US automakers are not qualified to run successful businesses. So either plan is doomed to failure. Bankruptcy and the renewal of entrepreneurial endeavors in US auto making are the only long term hope. I can agree that this might not be the best time to endure this pain due to the other crisis that are going on, but long term this is the only solution.

  • A Modest Proposal For The U.S. Auto Industry: Stop Building Cars [View article]
Exactly, the cool thing that could come out of this is is you are 5'4" you will be able to order a car with a seat for someone 5'4" i.e customization. You should be able to order everything the way you want it. If someone builds the Intel of engines, the NVidia of transmissions, etc you can have that in your car. $2000 for a $250 stereo will be a thing of the past.
