  • Dividend Income in Market Downturns [View article]
Being on a fixed income its hard to see the forest through the tree's as I have seen nearly a 30% +drop in the value of my stock holdings PPS . It may of been worse except for keeping forced buyouts in cash the past few years . I have been fortunate to see a double in dividend income over the past few years since 2001 by using prudent dividend reinvestment decisions and that is what is important . Good years ..reinvesting dividends when possible spreading them out has created a point where a modest assisted living apartment is possible . I just hope the market returns before I that transition to a nursing home . Ah in a perfect world that base would of been coverred with its prohibitted 6 figure expense . Favorite stocks some low debt reits like SNH near their current lows and solid banks like TCB right now seem ripe for accumulation . But what do i know down nearly 30+ . It just doesnt feel like were going to repeat the early 80's . This seems like its going to be a drag out 1950's 60's market but who knows - right !
