If video game sales are better than ever, why are developers (ERTS, ATVI, THQI) losing money hand over fist?

ATVI made money hand over fist. They took a write off on the merger with Vivendi. But money coming in and cost to produce was all in their corner. But the others do seem to be having trouble. ATVI should be very thankful they have World of Warcrafts 11.5 million subscribers giving them a huge monthly cushion.

Change and Predicting the Market Bottom

I would guess that most have sold plenty that will give them tax write-offs already. Could see another major sell off, but I doubt most will be looking for additional losses for their taxes. They'll already have plenty.
