Michael, First of all let me say Thks for all the great articles you publish. I have been living in China for a number of years and always find you're stuff very provocative and well thought out.
I think the cultural change required for a massive uptick in domestic spending in China is a generation away. This will be a slow process. And I don't believe the rest of the world can wait this long for the mercantilist(did I say that?) policies to end.
America Frets About the Economy as China Buys 'Stuff' [View article]
I have said for a long time that America will rue the day they viewed the rise of China as friendly. This is a dangerous country with an eye on global domination and we are supporting their every move.
Most of what you post is not made here. designed maybe but manufactured no. The design jobs are great but there simply isn't enough of them to sustain growth

First Take on GM: Packaged Bankruptcy Inevitable [View article]
I agree and have been advocated DIP process for GM for a long time. The government could provide the financing mechanism. They need serious restructuring. Wagoner and the board are delusionary and should be removed immediately.
Apparently Bernanke and Paulson failed to give markets much reason for optimism, in what turns out to be a dreary first trading day of December. Dow -7.71% to 8,148.37. S&P -8.93% to 816.20. Nasdaq -8.95% to 1,398.07. [View news story]
As the wise old axiom says, better to keep your mouth shut and let people think your a fool that to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Ford (F +9.7%) says it will re-evalute its options for Volvo, including a possible sale, in light of the "significant decline in the global auto industry particularly in the past three months and the severe economic instability worldwide." [View news story]
Another example of poor management decisions. Wait until the company is nearly worthless to sell it. This entire management team should be sacked. They should have sold Volvo 5 years ago when it was strong and got some focus on their core biz.
China, Credit Spreads and Asset Allocation [View article]
There is a lot of evidence that China has always greatly managed their GDP numbers. No reason they would change now. They don't like to deliver bad news to the minions.
