Hi Dan, I agree mostly what you have said, especially in the P2P live arena as I really think that the bigest problem is not the servers or the raw trafic that servers need to generate but the access networks that ISP have to support to succesfully deliver a massive simultaneus live streaming,

And those ISP had not been paid or contracted for that, so they have built access networks for a overbooking Internet best effort, with actual traffic figures per subscriber in the range of 50 to100kbs range downstream / 20 to 50 kbps upstream.
(and most of the Cable broadband have serious problems to sustain high upstream figures as in CATV pre Docsis 3.0 there is not enough bandwith in the coax for upstream services that P2P overlay networks need to generate bits)

So I have notice that Google are deploying almost 40 very large Datacenters privately operarated (they not sell anyfacilities on those DC) and are deploying their own fiber optics backbonnes as this is not the pain, so they are translating the streaming or high bitrate delivery cost to the distribution networks, were they have not assets.
