    The problem with that redistribution you propose is that it is a one time stimulus. Giving money to people doesn't turn them into producers. The money will be spent, and their lot will not change.

    A reversion to the mean of historical P/E ratios doesn't mean just bouncing off the mean. In previous serious recessions we have had P/E of 8 and less. To create a meaningful mean number the P/E ratio must pierce the mean to the negative in a fashion reasonably equal to the preceding upside, as has happened in serious recessions. So the question becomes: do you think we are in a serious recession...

    One thing I've been wondering about Covidien. Why do they blow so much money on 'name recognition' advertising? They have a huge sign in the middle of the Green Monster wall in Fenway Park and have a very high presence in other sports and consumer venues. They do not have any consumer products that I am aware of. This seems to me to be vanity advertising that is not targeting the actual user/customer of the product.
