  • Palm Pre: Inventory Watch [View article]
The engineers that designed both the Pre and iPhone are mainly American, however because of comparitive advantage it is wise to manufacture the product where ever it is cheaper. The profits go into American companies and pay for high paying US engineers. This is what Aryamehr was probably infering. No company of substantial magnitude can be wholly localized. What counts is its ownership and those that hold the intelligence, ie Patents, R&D and Engineers/designers not the low paying workers that put the product together in an essembly line.

Once you use a Pre it will be very difficult to convert back to an iPhone. Palm truly has a winner on its hands. Ever since I acquired my Pre I have just been in heaven. I never thought anyone could come up with a phone that could sway me away from my iPhone. I love the Mulit-Tasking, Qwerty keyboard, Synergy and its elegant UI.

  • Who Will Win the Smartphone Wars? [View article]
The iPhone is a great phone and will be for a long time to come, however what I saw at the CES gave me grave concern. This Palm Pre is just incredible, Apple will have its hands full trying to keep up with the Pre. I don't think anyone will be able to do that in the short term. The is a game for Palm to lose. Kudos to Palm. I can't wait to replace my iPhone, something I never thought I would say.

  • Palm: Reactions to the Pre Hype [View article]
My experience using all four carriers is as follows:

    Four coverage and data services:

    1. Sprint
    2. Verizon
    3. ATT
    4. T-Mobile

    For Price:

    1. Sprint
    2. Everyone else is 2nd.

    For handsets:

    1. Sprint's Palm Pre
    2. ATT's Apple iPhone
    3. VZ's Blackberry Bold

    For Technology and platform:

Qualcom's CDMA is by far the best, however GSM is more pervasive.

If Sprint continues executing the changes it has in the latter quarter it will unequivocally emulate T & VZ. They have the best platform and are currently in the lead to roll out 4G. As the sole distributor of the Palm Pre they should be able to retain their customer base since the new management has done a wonderful job with customer service.
