without a license, Arm cannot use the x86 instruction set, but x86 by definition includes the arm-RISC ; right?

by x86 we mean the full traditional computer "function set " of program instructions. by Arm we mean RISC-reduced instruction set computer. x86 does everything arm can do and more, but it is more complex, uses more power and may be slower to execute. The simple devices don't need complex programming, so risc is fine, but as chips, in general, get smaller the advantages of risc may shrink.

Incidently, what is your speculation on the possibility of a Samsung, Qualcomm, or the like take over of AMD??

James, an excellent first article. Thanks for the info. I am pleased to be your first "follower". Looking forward to profiting from your knowledge and analysis. I share your enthusiasm for AMD. As you point out, AMD has fought the processor wars for 44yrs and, unlike many, survived against Goliath. As you also pointed, AMD has recognized the need for and developed a new Strategy. The one advantage they have is "nimbleness". I own equal positions in both Intel and AMD.

Whoa, LTE is a lot more than a radio. Spread spectrum communications, really high tech. Lots of patents. Lots of special digital communications tech.

Intel is a buy, a dominate stock, one I own, long term. But, Qcom is also dominate in its area .
Cell telephone technology is much more than so call digital radio
