Retail's Black Friday vs. Broadband's Cyber 24/7/365 [View article]
Shelly,
While the comment might be interesting, you'd be hard pressed to know that the internet does not have all those deals you might think or say.
Being in the sports card, comic book & collectible industry, I have seen sales plummet nearly 90%, partly within eBay itself.
However, sales at my brick and morter stores have tripled in the last 4 months.
And on black friday, I sold the biggest chunk of stuff ever in my 16 years in business.....and guess what, the majority of it was stuff that was not on sale.
So, while the article might seem interesting, the backbone of our country is the mom and pop brick and morter stores.
Heck, even the big box stores will outlast the internet. People don't like waiting even if it means free shipping.
And as far as the no sales tax thing. Just wait for the next few years, you'll be paying some kind of surcharge or some type of tax on the internet.
Hey Dinah,
Always enjoy your comments. If you ever get free time, read the book Comic War by Dan Raviv. It is similar to the way John Donahoe and management are at eBay. Ron Perilman, nearly drove Marvel Comics out of business with too, his reckless policies and he said that there was no money in comic book movies...hmm, anyone forget Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, Punisher, and the many more they keep cranking out.
It's a great book and is very similar to what is going on at eBay.

Wasn't the customer right when they trampled over the Wal-Mart employee during black Friday.
Or what about when a buyer shop lifts from a store....."nah, the customer is always right"
"Buyers control sellers"
Yeah, maybe in your dreams buddy boy.....

I have sold about 10,000 so far this week, and guess what......none of it was on eBay
Look at all the fees they are losing out on.
I sell back to some companies, have been using ioffer which is great, and I have NOT used PAYPAL for any of this money as well!!!
Take that JOHNNY DONAHOE!
I think we should all have a bet when Donahoe is gone, will he resign or will the board throw him out.
He needs to learn from the better CEOs on how to manage a company.
